Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Any insight here?

Flying SQ - booked PE and upgraded to J on points. Fare class on booking is I.

Looking at Status Credit earn tables for Velocity FF (which I credit to) and against SQ there is no I class listed. Explanatory notes say that no Status Credits are earned where KrisFlyer points have been used as a form of payment.

I’ve flown several times doing this same thing re upgrades and always got the credits.

Something changed or an omission from the table?

'I' class is a star alliance business class award bucket. So I'm guessing that's why Velocity FF wouldn't have 'I' as an eligible booking class, but I can't help with the rest of the answer (although you'd think you'd get the points for the original airfare?)

It should be a case of proving the original booking to VA to get that credited. I had the same issue with an NZ upgrade, but showing the original ticket and explaining the upgrade got it sorted.

a350 seat question here...

Flying the a350 in J this Thursday and currently have 14K selected. 11D which is a bulkhead just opened up, should I go for it? Have read that the bulk head seats are a little roomier given there is no foot well.

Yes much better seat IMO

Absolutely! I also had the same issue two days ago... every bit of research confirmed 11DG, followed by 19DG, then 11AK and 19AK are the seats to go for. Supposedly *almost* as good as first class in terms of space.

Done, 11D it is!

Thanks for the reassurance. Now hoping a bulkhead opens up on connecting flight to IST - unlikely as EF showing them as unavailable.

Ordinarily the ‘proximity to the galley’ would be an issue for me, but given the unique design of the SQ seats, the advantages of bulkheads far outweigh any potential downsides of noise/increased traffic/staring at a wall 2 feet in front of you!

FWIW 1 - J bulkhead seats I would take D or F over A or K every day of the week as there is up to extra 6 inches length seat to bulkhead.

FWIW 2 - just had first Saver wait list clear for new R - probably won't take it up as not my preferred day to travel and basically not that desperate to try the hideous new Suites. I have another W/L 2 days later if it clears I will take it up as that is preferred day and flt.

Can you let us know how long before the flight date did the w/l clear? Thanks

6 days

Edit: Just rcvd SMS that R Saver W/L for Aug 28 just cleared - might be tip of iceberg for Saver rdpts into new R - still I suspect ability to W/L R Savers going forward will be very route specific.

Anyone had luck making a seat selection from a SQ award booking on SN?

I get the generic choice of middle or aisle only. Previously on other star alliance airlines I have been able to log into the airlines website and pick my seat. In this case it doesn't recognise the booking ref from SQ.

Is there anything like checkmytrip to get a compatible reference to enter on the SN website?

J class question, Should we take our own Bose Quiet Comfort headphones or are the SA ones supplied upto the job? I have read a number of reviews saying they were not quite up to standard, so would like some opinions from the faithful.

In my case, I phoned VA and got the SQ ref # and then phoned the SQ help desk and selected seats.

So we need to fly back to Singapore some time in May next year to attend a wedding and I was planning to take Qantas initially coz that is where our FF lies with but saw SQ having some pretty competitive prices for the same dates.

Will be flying in economy from Melbourne on the A380 and was hoping to get some insights as to what are the best economy seats on the upper deck or are there any seats that we should avoid?

Are the upper deck seats comparable to those of the Qantas A380?

Thanks!

Have not flown Qantas but with SQ depends on the configuration. If you are looking at economy upper deck will be configuration 1 Or 3 and worst seats in my opinion anything rows 82 or 83. Did once, never again. Was o/night flight and toilet smell was not great but the constant explosions of light and noise from the curtain to the toilet being ripped open was horrific. And almost no one shut the curtain after. Seriously.

I entered the flight number and date into SeatGuru and it came up as Airbus A380-800 (388) Four Class V1 so I am assuming it's version 1?
Rows 82 and 83 are are the closest to the lavatories so it must be the one you were in, thanks for the heads up.

Rows 79 look pretty ok as they right before the exit, but can they recline fully?
