SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Recently flew J on the A350 SFO - SIN, slightly over 16 hours. Not at all impressed with the aircraft, found it uncomfortable whilst wanting to relax and watch movies. Unless you are in 11D or F your legs are at this awkward angle.
Also disappointed that no amenity kits or PJ's given to J pax so you have to sleep in your clothes. I did ask just in case the goodies are issued on demand but alas no.

unfortunately the troubles with the a350 seat have been widely written about... seems best avoided if possible.

PJs have always been BYO. standard amenity kits in business haven’t been around for many years

I'm certainly not inspired to fly on the A350. I'm just trying to convince the gentleman that it is easier to source some award routes in F than J ;)

I think it's a ok aircraft. Just some airlines seem to have mucked up the experience with poor premium cabin layouts... SQ's seats too close together, CX's (now infamous) row 11 (which is basically *in* the galley and WCs), TG's single-cabin J class with the galley immediately adjacent to business class used (very loudly) to prepare Y class meals.

Is the A350 J seat further "enhanced" compared to the 77W seat, or are the issues the same? Have an overnight leg on the A350 booked later this year, hmm...

In other news, just flew the 777-200ER refitted J seat for the first time -- I never realised the seat was slightly different to the A380 version. This
one had more storage with buckets/baskets adjacent to the screens that were very useful, but which are missing from the bulkhead rows. Considering I slept fine diagonally after all, I didn't miss not getting row 11!

Okay...only issue...availability is there on SQ website but I can't seem to book it through Velocity, bugger. Life was much easier without the infant, I would just transfer the points and book direct with SQ!

Ok, I managed to get this to work. Was like there was a married segments issue (on VA's side, not SQ's) but VA were able to manually override it.

We flew J BNE to SIN/SIN to BNE on the A350, also found it uncomfortable. The amenity kits were very poor, socks and slip ons. The staff going over were lovely but coming back very poor. Hardly anyone in J and still had to ask them to feed my son breakfast. Mr Tootti didn't even get asked if he wanted breakfast. The lay flat bed very uncomfortable. We've flown with VA to LAX and found the sleeping arrangements far better then with SA plus you get Pjs and a nice amenity kit. Though we've flown many times with Singapore Air and have found them wonderful this has put a question mark on whether we would fly with them again.

Agree with it all. The pitch is just too tight on the A350. Even though they are new products SQ are behind the 8 ball now (especially with soft product) compared to the likes of QR, EY, VA, CX, etc. they have missed a trick here.

Was it a supper or breakfast flight? Although usually they still ask if you want breakfast.

The problem here is the cabin design. Although the crew didn't seem to be at their best - which is somewhat unusual for SQ.

Lack of amenities is standard on SQ business. Avoiding the A350 may be a partial solution to the other problems.

We flew out of SIN at 1am so that would make it a supper flight?

Yeah. And probably the menu would have said something like 'to maximise rest please tell your crew if you would like a supper after takeoff or to be served breakfast two hours before landing'. I think there's also a rider in there that you can ask for both, but if you've had the supper, they may not have automatically asked if you wanted breakfast.

With the overnight flights into MEL, I have found breakfast is not usually a full breakfast, normally a pastry and some juice/coffee. I normally try and eat dinner in the lounge so I can skip supper but accept I may be a bit hungry when I wake up.

There should be a choice of a main hot breakfast meal as well as a continental breakfast. At least this was the case a few months ago. The main breakfast meal is usually some sort of eggs (scrambled or omelette) along with some sides like a sausage or tomato. Along side that there's usually one or two hot supper choices and another lighter warm or hot savoury snack.

Having recently completed a 280k OWA, I am now setting my sights on a suites reward flight return to LHR. A quick couple of questions just so I can get my head around this one.
1. Can I book the outward flight when it becomes available, and then a few weeks later add the return, including a stopover in SIN?
2. Since the points needed are the same from most Australian cities, does that also then include a flight getting to a capital city i.e. TSV-SYD on VA?
3. I have a mixture of points, (and will book direct with SQ) would it be better to use up more VA points or more Amex MR points?
And any other tips you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Travel period is flexible but around Feb is preferred so I am just doing my homework for now, also connections and layovers are not a concern just want the A380 (New or old) suites.

We book the Suites rides first out of Singapore because we don’t have the opportunity out of Perth. Best you get the answer from someone who books out of Sydney.

Had my 1st and 2nd suite experience over christmas break. Crew were amazing but food was a bit disappointing, maybe I set too high expectations after reading this forum! Also slightly disappointed Krug vintage wasn't offered (despite being on menu) but just the blend before and after take off. Dom was available though. Attentiveness of the crew were incredible, I only need to stand up and stretch and before I know it, they're right next to the suite asking if I needed anything, despite the cabin being full. I told them on board about how appreciative I was of their service and the in flight manager asked if I would write the feedback for them which I happily said yes. Next thing I knew, 2 teddies nicely wrapped in a bow were given to me and I was even asked if I wanted more for my nieces and nephews but I declined. Haven't tried their A350 but did the CX one on J on an over night flight. Seat guru rated row 19 as bad so I got CX to move me to the first row - bad mistake as both galley and toilets are right at the front so ended up with no sleep. Seat on CX A350 was ok but not great, but still not as bad as the throne seats of A330 on MH where you feel like you are confined in a coffin with no room to move.

Well I enjoyed it on QR as a counterpoint!
