SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have a suites redemption on SQ 232 this Thursday which departs at midday. I am travelling with a business associate to meet wife in Singapore on her return from Europe.

I am in Brisbane and coming down the night before and staying at Mecure at the airport.

I recall from a post from a few months back that I can check in earlier than the 3 hours if the flight before is open when we arrive at the airport. As we both will have some office work to do in the morning rather than do it in our rooms our thoughts are that we check in around 7.00am and do the work in the First Class lounge and have breakfast.

SQ 212 departs at 8.55 so ordinarily the lounge would clear around 8.15 I would expect. My question is once all the passengers have left will they let us stay in the lounge or will we need to move out and come back in when check in for SQ 232 opens?

I have checked in early for a flight before without any trouble.

As there is less than an hour between SQ212 departing and SQ232 check-in 'officially' opening you will be fine.

Jessica thanks for that. The first class lounge will be a more pleasant place to do some work instead of the room at the Mercure!

RAM you picked me pretty well! There will be some work done but don't know how much. Much nicer place to work even with distractions.

Checked Expert Flyer this morning and all the seats are booked in suites. Don't know if that is common. I remember a post from Cruiser Elite a few months ago where he posted the provisioning for suites.

If it is a full load I hope they take on extra Dom, Krug and Caviar. Don't want suites to run dry.

I have had it where I was the only one drinking the bottle of Krug. The lowest number in Suites ever was two and the highest was eleven with the twelfth used by crew.

I was on the red eye SQ218 to SIN and surprisingly was the only one up all night watching movies and drinking Krug. Was not a good stopover day in SIN as I was sporting a hangover while walking around SIN waiting to check into our hotel at 2pm, unfortunately no early check in as it was busy.

Lesson learned. Next time I'll have to drink more water with each glass of Krug :D

We avoid red eyes but our 2 sons don’t seem to worry about it. We stop at Crowne Plaza in Changi and that works well for us. Just an easy walk to our room with our hand luggage.

Does anyone know if you can buy a bottle of Krug from the inflight duty free?

I've got a $200SGD voucher to use on my way back from MNL in December, and I'm trying to work out what I can spend it on as it will expire before I next fly with them in April 2018. Has to be used in flight from what I'm told.

Either that, or is it possible to 'pre-order' inflight duty free so that its confirmed on my flight? Last time we flew I struggled to spend it on something - hence why I've got to use it this time around.

Thank you SQ. Just finalised a mixed class booking ZRH - SIN - BKK.

Ever since I read about the 28/10 Whisky bar that's part of the First Class Senator lounge I've had an SQ F flight out of Zurich on my bucket list :D.

I believe they have around 120 different types of Whisky to have a wee dram or 3 sample.

Now if SQ could upgrade me to the enhanced suites I keep hearing about I'll be that much happier

...part of the First Class Senator lounge

Worth noting the Senator Lounge is open to all star gold pax - including economy (+ *F pax).

Here's the in-flight duty free catalogue... no champagne unfortunately: KRISSHOP - SINGAPORE AIRLINES. Don't know about whether the voucher can be used for pre-order.

Hrmm dang. Thought that would be the case. Will hopefully find something on board, of it they cant - maybe they could re-issue to extend it to April 2018 when we fly again? I'm sure Mrs Tizey will be able to find something.

Is there set $ value given out to first/suites pax?

Is it available for use during the flight, or given at the end so only good for the next flight?

No - they gave us each a $200 voucher because our IFE had issues with it on a suites flight ZRH-SIN last Christmas.. there was a ticking noise in the background that couldnt be rectified.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have booked my first outbound Suites on an A380 and about 10 days away from starting to book the inbound ones.
I can fly A380 on a daytime flight SIN to SYD, or a B777 overnight to MEL. The B777 would allow a better experience of TPR and get me closer to home for the same Krisflyer point expenditure, the A380 would allow the Suites experience to be fully experienced, but breakfast in TPR cannot be as good as dinner, it would also add an overnight stop in SYD or MEL and extra QF points/taxes to get back to Tas.

I have pretty well decided it will be F on the B777 to MEL - are there other pro's / con's I have missed?

Is there much difference between F and Suites with an overnight flight?

When I flew NYC with SQ I did the SYD - SIN in refurbed 777 - was all alone in the 4 seat F cabin.

In some ways i like the sense of space a bit more and the seats felt wider, though I'm not sure if that's reality or just not feeling so "enclosed"

Not sure what the FA to PAX ratio is on A380 compared to refub 777 but would think you'd get more personalised service on the 777.

I'd not increase costs to fly the A380. 777 F is still a great way to fly :)

I may be wrong BUT TPR is only available for a Suites booking. If flying First then you have to suffer the first lounge (which you walk through for some minutes to get to TPR). The first lounge has ice cream which is lacking in the self-serve in TPR,

TPR - we decided to totally immerse ourselves in the experience - so I booked the flights to give us 14 hours access. The quality of the food was OK but the first class Etihad Lounge in Abu Dhabi was IMHO much better for the dinner.

Breakfast (by menu) in the TPR was excellent, the fresh fruits and berries on one of my dishes were so good that I had them for morning tea! It was not crowded at all in the morning through to late afternoon but then became quite full. We went from having it totally to ourselves for 4-5 hours (perhaps) to queuing for the small food area. The range was actually better in the First class lounge you walked through to get to the TPR.

TPR has about 8 tables screened off so there is no view to enjoy whereas EY's have tables by the windows or away from the windows as well as several bars to choose from.

So, personally I would go for the early rather than late visit. If you've not been to Singapore or even if you have briefly then (as we did) you can go in & out and take part say in one of the free morning or afternoon Singapore Tours.

Suites vs First - If you'll be having another chance in the next year or two then six of one and half a dozen of the other. However, with the cost cutting that has started - I'd go for the suites now personally. Although (1st world problem) after seeing a video review of Emirates' suite door closing by remote - I have changed my view of SQ's suites - there is ONE improvement they could make.

There is nothing to stop you having a nap on the day time flight if you so wish - after having your Lobster & Krug!
