SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

When I did a search it seemed to only show the VA flight numbers not the SQ numbers on a one way.

The SQ would appear if I searched for a return.

Easiest way is probably to call to book or of course transfer to KF and book there (not always the most economical with the YQ I know).

An update on Changi Dollars. They are no longer accepted for tobacco purchases. I even pointed out that it says tobacco on the voucher (which was three months old) and she just said "stick it where the sun don't shine, matey". Well, not quite those words, but you get the idea. These people are turning me into an alcoholic I tell ya!

Yes tobacco purchases banned from Aug 1 - vouchers they are handing out are old stock and whilst they still say tobacco no way they will accept them.

Hi all

I'm shortly planning to book a Star Alliance round the world business class award (departing September 2017) using KrisFlyer points. I called today and was advised that I need to book all the segments required to meet the 'around the world' requirement/condition at one time. I understand this differs from the (almost) equivalent Qantas One World award, which allows booking of segments one by one with re-pricing to the relevant price (in points) once all the conditions of the One World award are met.

My problem is that I don't want to miss out on snaring an award seat for my first few legs because I am waiting for award seats on the later legs to be released.

Does anyone have any advice? I could probably book a set of earlier 'dummy' dates (assuming seats remain available) and then call them to change the dates once award seats for my actual preferred date of travel are released but that could be expensive (given the US$20 fee for each change).

Also if anyone understands the backtracking rules, I'd value advice on that. The KF call centre operator was lovely but I couldn't get an answer to my question about whether flying YVR-xYYZ-SIN constituted backtracking in an itinerary that looks like BNE-ICN-BKK-CDG-HAV//YVR-xYYZ-SIN-BNE.

Thanks in advance.

Geoff.

Hi all. Have lurked on this thread for a while but this is my first post.

We have not flown Singapore Airlines before but I have just booked flights from Beijing to Sydney in J for next July using Velocity pts. Both legs on an A380.

What lounge will we use in Beijing and is it worth getting there early?

The connection in Singapore is only 1hr 45min. Will we have time to visit the Singapore lounge?

Any tips on the best seats and will we be able to reserve seats when they are booked through Velocity? We are a couple so I guess the middle seats would be best although we could take a window seat behind one another.

Very new to all this so any advice appreciated.

The Beijing lounge is not worth getting there early. I'd recommend check-in at the standard 2 hours prior.

1hr45 is plenty of time for a visit to the lounge in Singapore. Maybe about an hour provided your flight arrives on time.

A380 business class - lots of good options. The bulkhead seats are better for the legroom area (full open space, your feet don't go into a cubby).

In PEK checkin staff will try to direct you to BGS Lounge - it is a dive - just ignore them and proceed to Air China J Lounge - slightly less of a dive than BGS. No point in getting there early

If flt dep PEK on time you will arrive in SIN with about 1hr lounge time. Definitely choose 2 middle seats and enjoy the experience together. Have fun.

On the note of lounges, what is the Sydney SKL F lounge like? I haven't been able to find any recent reviews of it online. Only a few when it first opened after renovation.

I'm looking at a set of dates and J class is glowing wait list for SIN-SYD, the redeye on 777-300ER is 1/3 full so I might have a chance. However... a daytime F class on a 777-300ER is wide open.

Is F class worth it on the 777 (for extra 20k points)? Will I get Krug/Caviar on this service (SQ211) :)?

There is little comparison between F and J. F is a marked step up - service, food, beverages - all upgraded. Then there's private room access and the amenity kit. You'll get your Krug and caviar.

Hey Cruiser Elite,

Duffa has finally shouted me a trip to London! He won't tell me what I'm flying on but he just said its (O) class...? Should I be excited?!?!

Look forward to hearing from you!

Nope - curb the enthusiasm! O is generic term for less than desirable seats - you know short for 'Oh my god'!

Can be right next to dunny - middle seats anywhere in cattle class - rows right near galley where food prep clutter means no sleep at all - penegal and and I tried to warn you about that Duffa dude that night in Chapel St but you just would not listen would you?

Perfectly pleasant I'd say, if nothing spectacular.

Very attentive service.
Nice showers.
Decent tarmac views.
Sorry, haven't paid too much attention to the F&B.
