Attempting to plan SQ SYD-SIN-HKG-SYD (3 day SIN stopover) trip in March 2012 for Mrs 8803, 8803 Jr, mini-8803 & I.

QF/CX > $1000 in price difference c.f. SQ. Preference for QF/CX, but with a mortgage & childcare payments...

Should I book available SQ fares now? Or should I wait in the hope that SQ may have a fare sale later in the year? From my dummy bookings, all indications suggest HKG as a destination makes it relatively unlikely fares will head south rather than north.

Any suggestions? (SQ pleb, but should hit QP Silver within next month.)

Many thanks!

That's always a tricky one as you never know what prices are going to do... I have booked an October trip to the USA & was also unsure of the best time to book. I took a risk and booked it in January and was lucky because the new fuel levy has pushed prices up.

There are a lot of variables such as fuel prices, the value of the AUD and supply / demand for the flights. As these things change, prices are going to adjust either way.

Once you do book, make sure you get your travel insurance too in case of any emergencies before you travel.

All the best with it.

Just wondering, can you do a multi-city with QF, SYD-SIN, and HKG-SIN, and then simply get a cheapie SIN-HKG for the 3/4 hours flight? IIRC, Qantas will raise fuel levy tomorrow (28 April), but given that March is generally not a peak season for Y-class Asia travel, I would be inclined to wait on this one.
