Hi all,
I know without doubt this Q has been previously answered, however I'm asking once more.
I have a VA rewards flight in Oct SYD-SIN-AUH-MXP. Ticket on VA rewards. Is there a certain time seat selection opens up for rewards tickets or is it strictly at check-in
Cheers

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

i'm pretty sure it's at check-in only. I've never found a way to do advanced seat selection when travelling on partner airlines metal.

I've never tried it with a rewards ticket, but sometimes if you can get an SQ reference number from VA and then call in to the SQ call centre, you may be able to assign seats... I think I had a 33% success rate on three bookings, which was enough risk of the dreaded middle seat that I decided I was never booking a codeshare through VA again.

In times past sometimes it was even worth trying the SQ mobile app with the SQ reference number, don't know if that's still the case or not.

I'm on the phone right now with SQ for a paid (not reward) booking on SQ but ticketed by VA. They're able to put in a request for seats, but they're still blocked until airport control apparently and it's only a request.

The app shows my booking and there's a Select Seats button, but all seat maps are showing every single seat blocked, even though if I do a dummy booking on the SQ website there are definitely free seats available. Maybe that method doesn't any more?

Ok, I also just got off the phone with SQ phone
131011 spoke to gentlemen and explained VA reward seat ya da ya da and he said if J you can lock in seats now, so I did. Took 2 mins and I was done . Maybe different story with Y, not sure. Cheers

You need the SQ booking reference. Pretty sure anything is possible once you have that...

I think it's now standard to have the partner airline booking reference below the VA reference No. EY and SQ always show on my VA points tickets.

that was my experience. Had no trouble selecting seats using online means with the SQ booking reference.

I still get the following error message using the SQ booking reference:
"Your ticket was issued by our partner airline. To manage your booking, get in touch with the relevant airline or return to the source of your booking."

I know its a different scenario, but relates to the SQ app. We booked F Saver Awards, and they were marked as reserved on the SQ site, and seat selection was disabled, and no seats were allocated. I logged into the app, and was able to select seats, which showed up instantly in my booking summary online.

I was able to select Y seats over the phone 48 hours prior to departure.

Same issues on web site and fixed by adding trip to the SQ App. VA redeemed J Reward Seats selected easily, well played team!

In case anyone was wondering, the result of this was... none of the seat requests held at all.

I ended up getting a PE seat (Y service) on one of the sectors that got subbed to an A350, so I'm not complaining about that part. But the other 1am departure with an aisle seat next to a family was… not a pleasant experience.
