Ok... so heres a situation I came across on Saturday and wasn't sure of the rules so did not push it all that much.

Flew out of Brisbane to Auckland on Saturday on DJ. I knew as Gold I had access to the Koru Club as that is their normal lounge but wanted to check out the SQ lounge. When I approached the lounge, the lounge attendant informed me that I had to be flying a "Star Alliance Flight" with my card. Not sure of the rules for Gold Access when flying DJ & SQ I didnt push it and headed off to the Koru Club instead.

Should I of been entitled to Access the SQ lounge or are they infact correct that I could only access it if I was flying SQ only?

the rules for Gold and Lounge access are a bit confusing regarding the SQ lounges.

International Lounge Access | Virgin Australia < lounge access rules

Is someone able to shed some light on this?

SQ lounge access is only when flying SQ. The ANZ lounge is used for all DJ/VA/NZ/EY flights that give international lounge access.

VA is not a member of Star Alliance so SA lounge access rules are irrelevant in this case.

Following on to this - How aware are SQ staff about the Virgin agreement?

As Virgin Gold it seems I should be getting Priority Checkin, Boarding, Luggage and lounge. How smoothly does this go with SQ staff?

I had no problems flashing a Plat card last time I flew SQ in either PER or SIN. The lady in the PER SQ lounge commented on the number of Velocity cards she sees and said they are now looking at opening the lounge up before Bali DJ flights now. Priority boarding was no problem, not sure if that was due to staff knowledge or just acting like you belong in that lane. Can't help re priority bagage since I didn't have any.

Recent x2 SQ from ADL - no issues re priority board/ lounge. The only prob. Is in SIN - no priority & the lounge - gold Kris is pure cough. - wine is worse than cattle class & food is sparse let alone the lack of a toilet. SQ does this to even the top SA tier members.

That's an interesting little fact and does hint that some sort of short haul international lounge solution is being worked on.
