Long wait in BNE for a flight connecting my domestic VA to the late SQ246 out of BNE (schedule change increased 5 hr transit to 9 hrs).

Small mercy I could check-in using the kiosk before the official check-in actually opened, because I had carry-on only. So time wasted in security and passport control didn’t take reduce lounge time. The KrisFlyer Gold in BNE opens the standard 3 hrs before departure, and I was second in.

Unfortunately the SQ lounge is tiny with a poor selection of everything. I think the dessert option took the cake: chocolate crackles … yes, cocoa Rice Bubbles in a cupcake liner like a 5 year old’s birthday party.

To top it off, two red wines and the heavier option was Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2021 rrp $8 in Dan Murphy’s.

Maybe I will skip BNE next time.

I was talking to the kitchen staff the other week. He has been taking the fresh croissants that weren't eaten in the mornings and makes bread & butter pudding with them for the evenings. Delish.

While it is a sparkling wine, Mumm is making it with NZ grapes. Not a bad. I tried several glasses to make sure I liked it. 🤣🤣

But it is small when some of those night flights are lined up...

Visited the SQ Brisbane lounge this afternoon prior to an Air New Zealand flight. Woeful would be the best description. First up it was moderately busy so sat on one of the side couch seats which had a lot of stains on the seat. Food was mostly veg except a chicken dish and basically all noodles with thick sauce or deep fried with one quinoa salad, some sushi and two cheeses that weren’t cold. The water tap was broken so a large jug of cold water was on the bench with a sign saying to ask staff for hot water. An average range of spirits (Bombay sapphire gin type range), two beers bottled ashai and tiger (but tiger was sitting bottom of fridge still in the paper six packs), two reds/whites and then an house of arras sparkling (~$38 at the bottle shop).

After 20 mins went to the Air NZ lounge which had much better food with different hot mains (chicken, veg, pasta, veg), cold cheese, lots of deserts. NZ wines, spirits and craft beer. Atmosphere was nicer/cleaner and I’d see no reason right now why anyone would even bother with the SQ lounge when the Air NZ lounge is open except for VA Gold/Plat who have no choice.
