Hi There,

Some assistance would be appreciated!
Got an easy question on the new SQ KF Upgrade rules.

:arrow:Some Data:
-Joined KF 1/10/05
-Earned first points in May '06.
-Currently on Silver at 30k points
-Planning trip Mel-London in Oct
-This should get me over 50k (within 6 months of travel).

Now the thing is, beacuase i "Joined" kirsflyer on 1/10/05 does this become my anniversary date? ie. do i loose my elite miles then? or will i have until 30/3/07 ?

thank you in advance for your feedback.

Welcome to AFF ds77 :)

Kris Flyer used to have a fixed April to March qualification period. However from April 2006 onwards a new system is in place.

April to March period still applies, until you go up a status level. At this point your anniversary changes and in future your year is based off the new anniversary. However status miles over the past 12 months continue to be assessed in case you are eligible to go up a level.

So as long as you earn 50k status miles in under 12 months from April 2006, then you'll qualify for Elite Gold (*G) status. Note that not all miles are status miles (eg partner activity, promotional bonuses, your silver status bonus 25% miles on SQ).

Hi Kiwi Flyer,

Thank you very much for your quick reply - and thanx for clearing this up.

You also just reminded ne thatmiles on silver status bonus 25% miles on SQ are not counted towards Elite upgrades!....haha, well i JUST make the 50k without the 25% bonus...phew!

thanks once again, look forward to participating more on FF!

Would you look at this:

Krisflyer has refused my Gold upgrade request, TWICE!!

i flew 52k elite miles in 5 months. My last trip to london was in OCT. Yet because i "joined" krisflyer in Sept last year, it doesnt count. Even though i didnt start earning my firt mile until May '06.

this is totally ridculous. I'll be writing a strong letter to them. Any tips from anyone would be greatly appreciated. My stat's are in the first post in this thread.

If you achieve a tier upgrade in fewer than 12 months, your new 12-month membership period will begin from the date of your upgrade and your membership anniversary will be reset to this date.

thanks,

I think that is correct though. Your membership year remains the same unless it gets reset. The way to reset the membership year is to advance to another level by earning the required status miles since your latest anniversary.

It isnt the fault of Kris Flyer that your trips straddle your anniversary. The current system is an improvement on what it used to be when every body had an April to March qualification period (except for PPS purposes).

bear with me about this: i know i am dense but.... if my friend joins Krisflyer on 10th august and we fly rtw in business class, various star carriers, he will accrue something of the order of 28,000 x 1.25 miles = 35,000 elite miles? So this gives him silver status, and he arrives home on 10th september. Next year, he repeats the trip, starting on 10th July and returning home on 10th August. He is gold then?

hi franjelly,

firstly: you only accrue actual miles towards your elite status (called elite miles), not the 1+25% bonus miles. So you will attain roughly 28,000 elite miles per rtw travel.

secondly, its depending on when the starting date of the membership is for 1-year cut-off.

If you dont currently have a membership, then join a few days before you travel. If you do have a membership you need to logon to the website to fine your aniversary date.

Note: if you have relatively low miles on your current KF membership, it may be worth joining *ahem* again under a different name somehow to include both RTW flights in one year! ;)

wow, i never expected that even the sq miles in J wouldnt accrue 1.25% status miles. I guess the lure of pps counterbalances that for people who mostly fly sq. Thanks for the clues.

sorry - i mis-read your earlier message:

business classes tickets ARE 1.25 miles for elite miles

(as opposed to silver status miles, which u accure 1.25 miles, but only 1 elite mile for status purposes).

whoops!

lol... but still one point of clarification: do other star alliance business class seats accrue 1.25 elite? or only sq? with some airlines like UA only UA metal (and in some circs, LH) business class accrue the bonus which in the UA case is 1.5. I think OZ it is across the board, ie a business class ticket in any alliance carrier accrues 1.25, and my suspicion is that it is the same with TG. the devil is,as always in the detail. imagine the fun we can have after dec 10 when air china is also in the hand!
