SQ changes - CBR-WLG gone; Now SIN-SYD-CBR-SIN and SIN-MEL-WLG & vv

With F can one presume book the cook would now be available ex-CBR?

you would think so as meals would be loaded in Sydney. I do like SQ - beats QF by a country mile.
I also wondered where meals would be loaded. Presumably no food service on the SYD-CBR leg, so I guess that works.

Realistically, I suspect your only option would be to re-route onto the WLG-MEL flight with SQ or request a refund.

If Air NZ has availability WLG-SYD then you could possibly re-route to fly CHC-WLG-SYD, but there will be no business class.

It's only an hour-long flight to fly from Melbourne to Sydney or Canberra, so not the end of the world.

Thanks Mattg. I can give up the Wellington and Canberra trip and just fly to Sydney from CHC, if Air NZ has availability in J on a Dreamliner for us, I am happy to fly CHC-AKL-SYD. The issue is that whether UA will allow us to change to this route for free(without change fee) since there is a change of carrier. There is no refund as this is a free leg and costs zero points for it.

No good for us flying to Melbourne and then having to pay for the MEL-SYD/CBR one way ticket.

I wonder how many points a redemption SYD-CBR-SIN and onward to another asian port like BKK would be.

Will it still be 58K in J, and 80K in F?

The early morning arrival into SIn makes onward connections easier to some Asian destinations.

NZ already operates between WLG and MEL/SYD but makes some sense as VA only operates between BNE and WLG
Yes, NZ does fly WLG to some Au cities direct, but not on their wide bodies.
Sometimes, to some people, paw pointing at myself, its nice to have a true J/F service, not a quasi Seat to suit, ala Works Deluxe, though nice, but no lounge entry on that these days.
Anyway, yes, a very good development.
Granted we have not seen fares as of yet, their SQ J CBR - WLG was cheaper then the VA J service Au - NZ.
Might try this Jul school holidays or Dec.
Oh, and yes, I did err and put this in VFF in the first instance.
Edit: ah, so Flyingmermaid got first bite.

But SQ can't sell CBR - SYD on its own, to us, can they, as purely domestic passengers on an international flight.
I have tried the SQ KF SYD J lounge, not bad, so even though SQ will fly SYD - CBR, it will not give access to SYD AFF members or CBR AFF to the SQ KF SYD lounge or who only want to fly between the 2 Aust cities.

Wonder if they can include a CBR-SYD sector as part of an international originating ticket with stopover (like QF does with LAX/JFK in US) (i.e. SIN-SYD/stop/SYD-CBR/stop/CBR-SIN, or their rights don't even allow this. They can't do this for the other two "domestic" (one domestic and one intra-schengen) sectors in their network - JNB/CPT & MXP/BCN.

They should be able to. One of the news articles about the changes mentioned they could. I think UA could as well when they used to run a SYD-MEL tag.

SQ website will not sell J or F on MEL - WLG but will sell Y seats for $407.xx.
Pity that no J or F seats are sold on the TT sector.
Thanks everyone.
Looks like its back to AirNZ via AKL again for my subclass of J flying pleasures.

Sad as I was looking forward to trying their J from MEL to WLG, maybe they just haven't loaded the J and F fares onto the new route yet? I couldn't even get Y to price when I had a look earlier today.

Sadly I have a reward redemption flight using UA miles for WLG-CBR for 2 J and 2 Y on 10/8/18. It is a free leg flight where we redeem an Asia-NZ and Aus-Asia "return" flights, for a free flight within the sector.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to what would be best to do? We have visited Melbourne before and prefers not to go there again, and Sydney is where we want to go this time(that's why we chose to Canberra as it is close enough to Sydney by coach/train).

Thanks heaps in advance. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Just buy a cheap MEL-SYD-MEL seat

I was looking at SYD-SIN-CNX one-way last week for end March and SQ was offering SYD-CBR on VA and CBR-SIN-CNX on SQ for same price as the SYD-SIN-CNX. The routing was suitable as it was a short transit in SIN. Price is now 50% more so back to drawing board.

Today received email they are adding extra SYD-SIN flight via CBR.

They were selling J fares CBR - WLG when their plane flew that route on the relevant days.
Maybe you are right that they haven't loaded the seating availability, or they might have gotten smart to us trying to get a sticky beak look at their MEL international lounge.
One option might be to buy the lounge membership with VA, cheaper if you are PS, but still, the seat on the plane will be Y if they don't in the end load up J/F seats MEL - WLG vv.
Early days yet, of course.

J fares are in. I can see D fare basis for $1067 on SQ website & ITA, return.

Don't seem to be sale fares either, so that's a pretty decent entry point price wise.

Same flights $317 in Y.

If J dropped a couple hundred on sale I be tempted to give it a go! If for no other reason than I have never flown SQ :)

Thanks, been waiting for this!

Let's hope prices drop for a launch sale.

Even though MEL - WLG is a very short 3 hours flight, plus the 2 hours time difference, Aud$1067 on a wide body on that route, with access to the KF lounge in MEL, why not use that as a tester/taster!
Other choice is the AirNZ thin/tin can, not direct, or the QF tincan, the SQ one wins hands/paws up.
I would go for it.
$$$$ yes, but hey, if your finances can support it, go for it I say, indulge a little/lot.
Looking at it that EK will stop MEL - AKL soon, and the other choice is the QF MEL J lounge, (eek), I am sure the KF lounge would be much better than the QF MEL J dungeon.
Edit: did you say (return???/!!!), thats Aud$533.50 in J one way, wow, now thats cheap.

Do we know if MEL-WLG will be a newer (even suite) style of J, or will it be 2-2-2 seats (or similar)?

Those are return prices, so it's $317 return from MEL-WLG. That's insanely cheap.

Who want to go for a quick weekend to WLG? I am tempted to try out their SQ J lounge using my VA gold status.

MEL - WLG with this new service is still not a daily service, so it would indeed suit someone with an open schedule, OR happy to fly back to Aust with VA's own aircraft, thus also being able to use the Koru in WLG, (if the person flies back to Aust on a true VA operated flight number, which I myself might do in Y(X)).
As for type of plane, we have to wait on that till someone makes a first booking, and then come back and tell us what their seating looks like.
