Spirit Airlines has filed for bankruptcy protection and will attempt to reboot as it struggles to recover from the pandemic-caused swoon in travel, stiffer competition from bigger carriers, and a failed attempt to sell the airline to JetBlue.

Last week, a Spirit Airlines flight to Haiti was hit with bullets while landing in in Port-au-Prince.

Interesting to see that part of the restructuring will seek to include drinks and snacks as part of the service offering.

More carriers are heading down this path of late, including Lufthansa.

Looking at bit wonky again. They are about to cut the entire schedule by 25% from November.

United boss predicts they will be over by the years end. The losses the are recording are eyewatering.

They are a big player with 200 aircraft these days. Will definitely have an impact across the US.

Spirit reported to be close to liquidation, and has now reached out to the Trump Administration for emergency funding according to some reports. Some analysts have expected it to enter liquidation this weekend but appears like will continue operations into next week. It does appear like the carrier is good as done at point in the future.

JetBlue is another in uncertain times as it builds up considerable debt. I’d imagine in the longer run it will be merged with another carrier, also expected to enter bankruptcy first however.
