I was really looking forward to book a room at the brand new Sheraton Colombo for an upcoming QR flight to the LOFTAP (took adavantage of the QR promo earlier this year with return fare ~2K in J), but the SPG website now says "opening November 1st 2017", I'm sure it was saying June 1st only a few months ago...:( Same thing for the other new SPG hotel, also postponed to November 1st, which might suggest even further delays!

I was planning to get a Club Lounge room (20th floor with view over the Indian ocean:cool:)...but no luck!
As others have said, a bit of SPG competition might put pressure on Hilton to renovate the Hilton Colombo. The lobby is now much better, but the rooms are so 1980s...

I found an old thread on FT mentioning a scheduled opening for the Sheraton Colombo in late 2013! Further revised to 2014, 2015, 2016...

Anyway, maybe I shouldn't have started a new thread, I just wanted to share my disapointment...:p

Sad you miss your SPG stay, but you're better off out of Colombo anyway, try one of the Jetwing properties in Negambo.

I'm with you in regards to SPG in Colombo, I just came back and will be back a few times over the next year and I'd love an SPG option. There is massive construction happening around the city, let's hope Sheraton is one that is complete ASAP!
