Off to Frankfurt in October. My flight arrives about 6:00 am Saturday, my hotel room is available from 2:00 pm. I was intending to meet up with my daughter who is au pairing in Frankfurt until uni starts in 2012, drop my suitcase in her room, spend the day with her until check in. However, my daughter is off to Spain with the family for a week and won't be back until later in the day (the same day).

Any suggestions about things to do (with suitcase) while waiting for check in time? Clearly suggestions should take into account my brain will be fatigued and I last spoke German in high school which was a fair number of years ago.

I know I could always contact the hotel and arrange early check in - just wonder if the more experienced travellers had any tips / hints for Frankfurt.

Thanks in anticipation.

Or just book the room for the night before as well, so that you can get in immediately.

If you catch the train into central Frankfurt you should be able to find a luggage locker at the main strain station. The airport would almost certainly have somewhere too but you'd have to head back to the airport to collect it again.

If you like modern art, the Schirn Kunsthalle right in the centre of Frankfurt is superb. On a Sunday there are often cool markets and activities on the city side of the Main. Good gardens, so-so zoo. I had a very happy 15 month assignment there a while back

Every chance you could store the bag at the hotel for the day without having checked in. Worth checking.

There's luggage storage at FRA. Ground floor. Search some of my previous posts and you will find details.

Get the train into Frankfurt Main. Walk, walk and walk through Frankfurt till you "caint walk no more boss".

Find the River Mine, cross into the old town...

Frankfurt is a surprising city of old (pre 1800) and new (post WWII) with a diverse culture and mix of people.

You have enough time to sample parts of Frankfurt that will want you coming back for more. Whatever you do though, make sure you sample the apple strudle at the bakery built in the 1700's (again see previous posts/trip reports of mine) near the old customs house!

Enjoy!!!

Footnote: Just re-read your post - check luggage into the hotel concierge, they will happily take it off your hands.

Thanks for all the excellent ideas - I don't mind plane spotting but I like little planes better than big ones (ex was a light aviation commercial pilot in FNQ quite a few years ago). So I think that I will take the case up to the hotel then walk around and see some sights. I will take your advice and look up the previous threads re frankfurt. I am looking forward to this.
