Virgin Australia only allows you to view or change bookings with 2 or less flights. For further assistance, please contact us.
I'm currently a Velocity Gold member on the cusp of hitting Platinum and can never modify a booking nor use advanced seat selection when I have an itinerary with more than 2 legs in it. FYI I fly SYD-MEL-CBR-BNE-SYD pretty frequently and can never perform advanced seat selection. I have a SYD-BNE-SYD itinerary the week after next and have selected seats successfully..

Being curious this evening, I called the Velocity call centre and was advised by a not so helpful agent that they indeed support seat selection when there are multiple legs and to press F5 and try again... I was also advised a while ago when I tweeted @VirginAustralia that I should also be able to complete the above.

I have tried both Safari/Firefox on my Mac, as well as IE on my work laptop all to no avail.

So my question to the AFF community, is what I am trying to do supported and have any of you actually been able to complete a seat selection or are multiple people at VA unsure of their online product offering?

Thanks,
Adam

Multiple people are unsure. I've had exactly the same problem, and so have had to get the call centre to select seats. Kind of ridiculous really. Only other option is to book separate bookings - bit of a pain though. Hopefully they move to the new system soon.

Thanks for confirming, I tried to book seats with the help desk but seemingly they could only book me in row 20 for all of the legs. I told her to just leave it and I will deal with it at the airport.

Agreed, they need to overhaul this online system, it can't come soon enough. Trying to lure business travellers over I feel you need to have the systems in place to cater for it.

Just my 2 cents worth.

What status do you have?

Gold and on the cusp of hitting Platinum and row 20 is the best they can do?

Oops should have re-read the first post...

That seems pretty poor - Golds have access to row 3 and back so I don't understand why that would be. I've had them select row 3 before, not even the Platinum call centre, and 5 weeks ahead of the flight as well.

I would note the phone experience I had in calling VA to be sub par, the lady advised me she was brand new on the phone so I am trying to not be overly critical...

I just got impatient by the end after her repeatedly telling me that my assigned seats were the best they could do, I told her repeatedly that I normally am able to pick row 3 (or 4 or 5 depending how late I book and flight load) but that didn't seem to make a difference. I won't get a chance to call back today but will see if I can do better checking in at the lounge in the morning.

Thanks for all the insight, as always :)

I'm currently having this exact same issue. Rang up VA and was told that it's a system issue and they have no explanation for it. They were able to allocate me row 3 for all my legs however my argument was what if I need to make changes to my booking outside the phone operating hours. They claimed that there was nothing they could do about it.

Virgin Australia now you're flying! Adam, I think that your experience is about typical. Virgin call centre staff are still on a BIG learning curve and a high percentage cannot answer anything that isn't on the basic script. It will take a few years more I think before this situation really changes. As for the website, nuff said elsewhere.
