Something to see [Silo Art Trail]

Fortunate to have worked in Gunnedah to see the water tower art there - it's been converted into the local history museum. Also worked in Barraba where one of the more recent silos was added to the trail. The water P1040523.JPGP1040561.JPGP1040564.JPGtower in P1040560.JPGTamworth is up on the Oxley lookout.P1040557.JPG

I’ve seen a couple of the WA silos. Ravensthorpe and Albany. Quite a different style from the Vic and SA silos. Which is great. As an aside, we loved Albany. Why did it take me 63 years to find it?

I think there'd be one or two between Brisbane and Cooktown or Karumba, or even between Broken Hill and Sydney; I lived as a child at Molong, and there wer magnificent silos, as that part of NSW had a lot of sheep, but also a great deal of wheat.

It is all indifferent over-priced wine now, but surely a few silos have been left.

We haven't seen any yet, but we have a trip booked to WA in August to do the WA silo art trail, and hopefully they will open WA and we can fly in ! The silo art is a great idea.

This is the one we are hopefully doing in August =
Timely thread and thanks for these links.

I noticed one in Rochester (between Bendigo & Echuca) last Thursday evening, and according to the Silo Art Trail site it was completed in July 2018 - late 2018 I was working in Echuca and I drove through Rochester every day for a while and never noticed it being daylight summer evenings, but last week in the dark it was lit up and looked great, so that's prob why I noticed it.

Nice to see, because the drive between Bendigo and Echuca is boring as normally 😴

Now that everyone isn't totally locked down, I'm sure you're all looking for something to visit. Issues remain, of course, in that hotels etc are still very restricted. But, if you're in Victoria the art silos really aren't that far from Melbourne. They are spread throughout the state.

The newest one is at Colbinabbin, a small town between Bendigo and Euroa. I've seen quite a few of them now, and this is possibly the best one. Easy drive from Melbourne, and it will get you out and about.

I've seen all of the Victorian ones bar this.

Have to agree: it's very well done: good sense of perspective.

IIRC (there are photos on internet if I could be bothered checking), some of the older ones are monochrome.

Colbinabbin was once the terminus of one of two Victorian Railways branch lines from Murchison East, the other going to Stanhope and Girgarre. The two branch lines junctioned at Rushworth.

Did you manage to beat the border closure with NSW? :)
We were already in NSW when Gladys decided Victorians were no longer welcome. It was interesting that there was no information whatsoever for people who were already in the state, but as we felt unloved we decided to simply head home, abandoning our paid up accommodation.

We did pass through Weethalle and Grenfell though, before our unloved status became evident.

Went for a drive with my mum on the weekend, out to Rushworth for lunch. Stopped in at Colbinabbin, the work there was certainly impressive. Lots of people in the town as well, and maybe 20+ cars in the car park next to the silos.

As kids we would often go on family fishing day trips on the irrigation channels nearby, so no stranger to the area, but it looks like many are. Good to see.

When you can't even get a reason for why your train is running late, you can't then expect to get something informative about a major crisis!

Love Grenfell. I arranged to build a small office there years ago for a government agency, and got to visit a number of times.

Even in more normal times, many of these country towns are doing it tough. I hadn’t been to West Wyalong or Grenfell before, and both seemed like towns that would be worth a visit in the future.

We must have had a premonition about what was about to transpire in 2020, as Mr BB and I drove from Perth WA to Caloundra and return in Nov/Dec last year to collect a hybrid van... here's a few photos of some amazing artworks we saw along the way . . . . .

They certainly have the ability to take your breath away, and are well worth driving out of your way if needs be to seek them out.
