With a booking for January a MEL SYD flight was cancelled - I was moved to another service 15 minutes later.

I had been on an VX* 73H but the new one is a ZX* beastie.

My allocation was 13D - I was reallocated to 27E?

Hey???!@?!?:

A similar thing has just happened for a PERMEL flight of mine i October - it was very strange I thought. I reasoned perhaps 2 quick aircraft changes one after the other?

I had a slightly similar experience last week. Moved to an earlier flight at the last minute on a red-e-deal in the lounge. Walk away and see that I've been put into 25E on an OG* 767 - basically the same seat as yours. Quick check on E/F and 26B and a couple of other similar aisle seats are showing as available. I can only guess the lounge guy was having some fun.

BTW ended up in 25B, thanks to E/F seat map* and a helpful gate lounge person. :D

* It paid for itself right there

I have had similar experiences every now and then.

Sometimes the computer gets it right and sometimes it gets it wrong.

One thing I wanted to tell you JohnK: My Oct 26 767 flight changed to a 737 the other day, I was automatically assigned 6C (from 25J or wherever). Just wanted to mentioned it as a possible sign that the computer system might have been fixed, as we have both experienced the not able to select seats thing in this situation in the past. Of course, you've had that more than me.

The 767 I was booked on changed last week 1-2 before flight and where I was in 25J I was re-allocated 26D which is bulkhead main cabin on the ex-BA 767s. There have been times though where I have experienced what serfty has reported and I have been re-allocated a middle seat.

And I have checked my bookings and I can't find a swap from a 767 to 737 in the next few bookings but I still cannot display seat map for A380 in January.

Just looking at the QF seat map, it would be good if it would highlight when a bassinet with a baby was booked, flashing bright red as a warning.

Maybe an option in seat preference for: Aisle, Upper Deck, Far Away From Babies

SHadows show as X's in the seat maps.

As for "the computer" - I don't buy it. Not even a balancing - FWIW, 3 or the 4 Row 43 exit seats are allocated.

Are you suspecting someone has it in for you? Then how do you explain it happening to me as well?

Unless someone has it in for those arrogant QF Platinum AFFers who think they can have first row of economy or exit row every time?

This happened to me (+1) yesterday:

When I booked over 2 months ago, CBR-MEL was showing as a 737-800. I selected 2 seats in the exit row 13. When I checked-in on-line yesterday morning, it was still a 737-800. Being an exit row, I couldn't print the BPs. When we went to the Qantas J lounge in CBR at just under 2 hours before the flight, it was still a 737-800 and we were quizzed the exit row questions and given our BPs. The flight was called on-time but had changed from gate 11 to gate 12. Walking to the gate I noticed a 737-800 parked at gate 11 but a 737-400 parked at gate 12. Oh - cr*p, a late substitution! And I recalled that row 13 was not an exit row on the 734. Exit rows are 13,14 on the 738 but 11,12 on the 734.

At the gate a few pax were getting beeped and being allocated new seats. Our BPs didn't beep. So I mentioned that we had expected exit row seating. "Sorry - there was an aircraft substitution just 2 hours ago" was the explanation. We were still in row 13. The flight was pretty full.

On board there were one or two pretty unhappy passengers and the CSM was attending to them. I asked to see the CSM too. I said, as politely as I could, that I realised this was nothing to do with the crew but I had allocated the exit row seats months ago and they were fine even 2 hours before the flight and I thought the seat remapping system could have done a better job. I mean why not map the 2 exit rows on the 738 to the 2 exit rows on the 734? How hard could that be? And you'd have all the pax already cleared for exit row suitability (I noticed the gate staff were asking the questions to some pax). The CSM agreed totally and said she'd like to pass my comments back to management. I know it's just a short flight CBR-MEL but I am tall and even on this flight it makes a difference to me.

A few minutes later the CSM came back and offered to move me to business! But I was travelling +1 and there weren't 2 business seats free, so we stayed put. The CSM did later offer a glass of wine from J-class, which was a nice gesture.

It's been a few times now that this has happened to me. A late 734-738 swap and you can lose your exit row seating. Is it Altea that does the seat remapping? Why not at least keep the exit row pax in exit rows? I guess it's to try to cut down on BP reprinting?
