Re: Virgin pilots get a 28% pay rise!

But the thing is Qantas dosent "care" if that makes sense as much as virgin. If it was the same, wouldnt virgin be having the same situation if the pay was too low? This is a positive announcment, please dont turn it negative.

Why do you say that? for how long has QF been paying its pilots more that VA (lets see probably the last 11 years at a stab!)? We could equally say that VA didn't care much for it's pilots up til now too?

The way I see it, at least Virgin management is communicating and is on good terms with workers unions and their staff. The union in question which represents the large majority of VA pilots praises John Borghetti in their statement.

John Borghetti also has said that having "Australia" in the name Virgin Australia is a commitment - and that he wants to keep jobs on sure.

There is no doubt, Virgin management are doing a better job than Qantas management at the moment - but we must remember the poor legacy Dixon left Joyce to clean up....When will companies learn to reward executives for long term initiatives, not short term profit?

Jack, I dont think you are being targeted, the nature of a discussion forum is to attack arguments, not people, so dont take it personally, and if you are offended by a post that you think does not meet the rules of the forum then report it, from my point of view reporting a post by a member is better than trying to fix a possible problem with a reply and getting into a flame war, which makes for poor reading by the majority of members looking for constructive articles and ideas.

Cheers, i will definately consider this.

Jack, I'll pass on some advice from someone who has been in the media for 18 years. The media will always selectively write and article to suit their own viewpoint. It's well known for example that Ben sandilands hates QF with a passion - hence the bias in his reporting. Unfortunately for you, I've seen where you have fallen for such writing in the past.

My suggestion if you don't want people "attacking" your posts, write them up so they aren't biased. From where I stand it comes across as Virgin does everything right and Qantas can't, which is not always the case. If you see an article and want to post it, be neutral in your thread titles and how you present the story. Because on first glance it can be perceived as a Qantas bash.

In the story above, simply present it as it was, some VA pilots will be getting up to 28% payrise. It doesn't even need to mention QF, unless you acknowledge the facts (e.g. that QF have generally had higher salaries in the past, or written as Virgin have had lower pay in the past).

I think there is nothing wrong with presenting a news story and your position on that story. In fact I think that is part of the forum directions for posting news stories, well encouraged. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....el-news/how-post-travel-news-items-17862.html

The pay story was interesting but was so lacking in details that it was kinda useless. No time period for the agreement, not detail if the 28% includes back pay. So the posting of the story could have been helped by some comment on the content. As it is it seems to be a posting of just the headline, which could give the wrong impression.

Of interest here is that you have the virgin Pilots union and (I dont have the article handy) 1 of the pilots unions representing qantas pilots have agreed its a good deal.Meanwhile after the wage increase they are still on less than QF .Meanwhile that same industry union says the qantas longhaul pilots deserve much more ???
I know I have mentioned this before but the union has a real problem in that they seem to think they can maintain a wage margin on DJ for doing the same job. And they wonder why qantas is looking to offshore business because they are pricing themselves out of the game.
Oh and please can we stop comparing pilots to CEOs,JB is on similar money interms of his wage compared to company revenue as Joyce

Yes but unlike AJ, JB is trying to get more Australian pilots and staff in general, not get rid of Australian technical and cabin crew leaving more money in the pot for you to be paid increased bonuses as the CEO!

All unions praise the boss once an agreement is reached.. they are all lovey dovey until the next EBA round, then the gloves are off again!

Jack,

I would like to make it clear that I was not attacking you by posting the JetBlue article, I was having a go at the article as to me it was not very well written and contained a number of errors in there. I find that frustrating.

As for Ben Sandilands, well the less said the better. 28% over an unspecified time frame is not really that useful to gauge the offer. It could well be over 10 years. Wait and see I guess.
