I have searched this forum but not found exactly the information I am seeking. Mr LL and I are travelling to Vietnam (arriving and departing HAN) on the following dates:

Sept 6-14 then again Oct 6-8 ( in between we will be travelling in Canada and USA - haha on that CX mistake fare booked on Jan 1 this year)

Now looking at various visa options for Vietnam - it seems to me that 2 single entry visas would be the way to go (as a multiple entry 1 month visa would not be sufficient and a multiple entry 3 month visa would be much more costly) - is my understanding correct?

Can you apply for 2 single entry visas simultaneously ? Or would we need to exit Vietnam first then apply for the second one?

There are various visa service web sites ("portals") which provide you the documentation for a 'visa on arrival' but charge additional fees - the Vietnam 'offical' web site seems (as far as I can tell) to only allow for online visa application (not visa on arrival).

I also notice on the offical web site you must upload a photo with one of the requirements being "ears" showing - does this mean that if you go the visa on arrival option the photos you bring with you must also meet this requirement - it is not stipulated on these "portals". (My passport photos taken very recently do not show my ears).

The "portals" also offer services like 'express service' at the airport and/or car transfer to your hotel - has anyone used these - would you recommend them?

Finally to further complicate matters Mr LL and I are both waiting for our new passports (from Australia, Canada and Germany) as ours were stolen on a recent trip (as reported here on a separate AFF thread - many thanks for all the sympathy) - hopefully these will arrive in time to get these visas sorted out.

If you have a German passport it seems you might be exempt from a visa for stays up to 15 days. Flyertalk has an extensive thread on the latest requirements, with the wiki containing all the details: Visa / VOA Info for Vietnam - Page 81 - FlyerTalk Forums

Yes thanks - I found the TA forum and after my own research decided the best, easiest, cheapest, and safest approach is to go in person to the Vietnam embassy here in Sydney and get a visa in our respective passports before departure.

Aren't you exempt from a visa for a German passport?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Presumably only one of them has a German passport.

Yes one German and one dual Aussie/Canuck - so I definitely require a visa but Mr LL as German is only allowed 1 visa free entry every 30 days so will also require a visit for second entry. Living in Sydney it's just easier to drop into Rushcutters Bay (location of Vietnam consulate)

E-Visa now available https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn . I found 3 working days was closer to 5 working days and using cut and paste on the confirmation page may not work. So retype the application.
Single 30 day is USD25 plus an unavoidable usd 96 cent payment fee (Rejected my Bankwest no foreign fee card)
You also need to print it out as the airline checkin counter will want to see it.

Thailand is very happy to see .Vn visa complications/hassles support its tourism industry.

Pub scuttlebut from Vn. I believe Australia charges some Vn people $1500 for one class of visa with a 1% success rate. Those rejected do not get their $1500 back. OTOH lots of .vn's having served jail time in .au, .vn not taking them back. Plus .vn are big overstayers, if you exclude clever pommies that have blended in. While the Australian passport must be the worlds most expensive (feel free to comment) it is not the most powerful. Post FTA DFAT has failed to progress matters against other nations that did. I would like DFAT to reboot its lethargic underperformance.

Given the Crowngate affair, Vn should certainly wave through those staying at the Windsor with $11 beers.
