Has anyone here stayed at the Ambassador Transit Hotel at SIN? I will be returning to SIN from KUL by car on Tue 18 Jan, arriving early evening. My flight home is QF32 (departing at 09:00) the following morning.

I believe this hotel is actually airside, so if I check into the hotel the night before my flight, do I have to exit the terminal to check back in the following morning, given that I want to keep my luggage with me that night? Hope that makes sense.

Or has anyone tried Changi Village hotel which is close to the airport?

Stay in the city. Nowhere is far or long to get to the airport, and the airport hotels are generally poor value for money. From central hotels to airport 15-30 minutes and around S$20 for cab.

Transit hotel is airside - so no access without having already checked in. I'm not sure if QF will be able to check you in the night before (will the desk even be open?). Will create a headache if want to check some bags that you want access to that night.

Much easier just to stay in the city.

Where the transit hotel is useful is if arriving like 1 or 2am and leaving next morning by 8am.

I have on a couple of occasions stayed airside in the SKL lounge (open 24 hours with sleeper loungers). But in each case this was a transit and not needing access to checked bags (if any).

Can you take the late evening SQ flight back instead?

Agree with Kiwi Flyer.

Although I've never stayed in the transit hotels (my transits have always been <4 hours), I investogated it for my M-i-L's trip a couple of months ago.

I believe Dave Noble may have stayed there...

"calling Mr Dave Noble, please go to the white courtesy telephone, Mr David Noble, please go to the white courtesy telephone..."

Hello... Hello....

Pah,,,

Who said the White Courtesy phone

*picks up the Red courtesy phone* .... Ahh, thats better

The transit hotel at SIN is great for its intended purpose. The rooms are reasonable 3* motel rooms with double + single bed and bathroom. The hotel has a swimming pool and gym and there are plenty of shops nearby in the terminal

I have used it for overnight stop when arriving on QF5 from SYD and departing in the morning for LHR on QF31 and can recommend it for this sort of stop

Just get your bags tagged to SYD and then on arrival at SIN, just stay airside and head to the hotel in T1.

The rates are fairly reasonable. If arriving early eve ( say 7pm, then you will want it for 12 hours I guess ) so would cost SGD141.15 for a single occupancy or SGD 148.10 for double occupancy. ( approx AUD115 / AUD121 ) which is pretty decent; the cost of a taxi to and from a city hotel is going to cost around SGD35 /AUD29 on its own

I would have no hesitation in recommending it for an overnight stop and will most likely make use of it again in the future

yada yada is arriving by land (yes I know a strange concept - at least its not a bus)

Ahh... didnt read it that carefully

Cannot take luggage through to departures and the hotel

Dave

I would offer some (realistic) suggestions, but this thread seems to have gone off the rails.

Why wouldn't you just fly down to JHB?

:)

Agree with Kiwiflyer and suggest any one of hundreds of hotels downtown rather than the airport

Air Asia have "free" flights (plus taxes) KUL-JHB at the moment. Works out to be less than $10 (plus a $50ish taxi fare to SIN)

Thanks for the tips everyone. Looks like the transit hotel is not an option if arriving by car.

The reason I was going to be travelling to/from KL by car is that this is my boss's preferred mode for his frequent trips from Singapore and he was to be driving up on the Friday evening (13th). However last night he emails me and says that he now has to go to Beijing on the Weds and will be flying from there to KUL, and wants me to rent a car in SIN and drive to KUL. With some other person he was planning to take, whom I've never met.

Can't say I like this idea much. :x I've done the trip via car before as a passenger, but the torrential rain which was worse than a Sydney summer, the trucks with poor/no lighting, and the mayhem of traffic in KL does not appeal if I'm at the wheel.

So I might end up flying after all! Will try to get all this sorted out today.

I would definitely be flying. The Malaysia law enforcement officers are renowned for targeting Singaporean registered vehicles driving along the highway between Singapore and KL, especially if they look like rental cars, as a means of extracting supplemental income.

Ah yes... glad you reminded me, NM. My boss is apparently quite skilled at bribing <cough>, I mean negotiating a lower fine after being pulled over for speeding on that section of road. I really don't want to get involved in this.

Yes, you follow my drift very well. I would prefer to avoid such confrontation as I have little negotiating skills when it comes to that sort of thing.

Harumph... :x My boss is now going to fly back from PEK to SIN on Saturday morning (14th) and drive up to KUL with me and the other person. So I won't be able to attend the FT DO after all. :( Oh well, guess I'll just find a hotel somewhere nice for the night of the 17th.
