Planning a back up if friend ends up not coming to France Nov 2019 and this turns into a solo trip
Have 15 days spilt between France and London
Good with London know what shopping I need :)
Flying into CDG probable staying 7 Nights
Should I stay in Paris itself or ?
Need access to a train line to wander around France
Any suggestions on accommodation and locales ?
Will Eurostar back to London as I stay near St Pancras
Thanks

In Paris - have lunch at Jules Verne up the Eiffel Tower. Had an amazing meal there and even better, you skip the lines to get up as there is a dedicated lift, and then after your meal they let you on to the viewing deck.

Otherwise just wander the streets and soak it all in! Sacre Coeur definitely - and the roof of Galleries Layfette. And their food court - amazing! All the Maille mustards you can buy!

This was the view from our hotel around 12 months ago

I hear you! One of my degrees is in Art History but loathe traipsing around art galleries. I think I did about an hour in Louvre and the same in MOMA. Bypassed the Tate, NPG and NatGal in London. I did go to Milan for a day to see the Last Supper though - and cried on seeing it.

I think my one exception will be the Uffizi. But that even shows my dislike of them - all my travels and I’ve not prioritised Florence!

We had a private after hours guide of The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chappel and then again at The Prado. IMHO this is the only way to enjoy the art (if it’s achievable).

I loved The Last Supper, it took my breath away. Although being locked in the holding pen before entry was quite claustrophobic....and one of the only times I’ve done a group tour. I ditched them as soon as we finished the LS. :D

I could spend a month in Florence. I’ve been 3 times and not tired of it.

Anyway, I’ve spent 40 years travelling the globe visiting many archeological sites, art galleries and museums. Mostly these days I really enjoy sitting with @GPH, a bowl of snacks and a glass of wine, just watching people and chatting with locals.

Edit: The Belvedere is still on my bucket list. 2 visits to Vienna and missed out both times :( Long frustrating story around that.

Are you aware of the vineyard in the middle of81C89054-5D5A-47A9-9743-F61ACF28D9DE.jpeg Mont Marte?

A few options that I haven't seen mentioned are :-

- a visit to the Place de Vosges with lots of 17th & 18th C. buildings Place des Vosges | Le Marais Paris | PARISMARAIS®

- walk above and through Paris on the Promenade Plantee It was a big inspiration for the The High Line in New York. Cool Stuff in Paris | La Promenade Plantée, a beautiful elevated park built on old train tracks

and a walk along the Canal St-Martin Canal Saint-Martin - Wikipedia

I also enjoyed wandering around the old warehouse area of Bercy Bercy Village - Paris

if you have any interest in military history, Les Invalides is worth a visit ( I found it interesting when Mr FM dragged me there). Napoleon’s tomb is there as well.

So if this is the 'i remember Paris thread';)

I joined Societe Generale, the French investment bank in 1999, in the Mining Group, led by ex Wallaby Captain, Nick Farr-Jones.

Immediately upon joining, I found out that the bank had a 'mining conference' planned in Paris and London in two months, timed to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. Of course I had to go!

And I did. About 15 very top executives form the world's top mining companies at a 'conference' anda weekend in London, with NZ V France then Aust V Sth Africa at Twickenham ( sigh). Then off to Paris for 3 days of bars, dinners, Lido. ... Executives behaving like naughty school kids under the spell of NFJ. No RWC grand final for us plebs unfortunately, but a ( sort of ) memorable ( hmmm) experience of a very fun Paris experience!

Go to the Lido.

We usually go to the Marche au Puces at Port de Vanves on a Saturday or Sunday morning - a great flea market. But we are taking a longer stay in September, a few days in Paris in then a circuitous route back.

Does this mean you are going through Honfleur - lovely little village - would definitely go back there again.

We've got JL and CX F award seats booked for a Euro holiday in April that includes a few days in Paris :) ... looking like we might not be able to travel due to the likely awarding of the largest contract of my life :(

On the bright side if the trip is cancelled due to the work.... there will be very many trips to Paris and beyond :D

LOL, since I've just posted the above - the contract will probably be awarded to another and we will travel :)

I'm going through a massive calendar reshuffle at the moment for the same reason - the contract is fantastic but it certainly causes some headaches at the same time!

I'd laugh if we had the same flights. Have just cancelled our April J & F CX to Paris. Too busy to go away right now
