Planning a back up if friend ends up not coming to France Nov 2019 and this turns into a solo trip
Have 15 days spilt between France and London
Good with London know what shopping I need :)
Flying into CDG probable staying 7 Nights
Should I stay in Paris itself or ?
Need access to a train line to wander around France
Any suggestions on accommodation and locales ?
Will Eurostar back to London as I stay near St Pancras
Thanks

What sort of things do you like doing? Have you been to Paris before and do you want to see anything else? Lot's of wonderful French cities that would be great to wander around on your own.

Bordeaux
Lyon
Avignon - base yourself there and then visit some of the wonderful sights around there - Nimes etc - can give a lot more suggestions if you're interested

Or English countryside would be another option

Then Avignon would be great - good food and the weather will be warmer than up north. TGV only about 3 hours.

Day trips to Nimes, Arles, The Camargue, Pont du Gard, Uzes, Marseilles, Remy St Provence, Aix en Provence - many you can do on your own on the train or you can do an organised day trip.

Have you been to Fontainebleu? This can be reached by train from Gare de Lyon, where the famous Train Bleu Bistro is located. I bought a Paris Visite Zone 1-6 ticket, and this covered the train to Fontainebleu and the bus for the short journey to the palace. It was a lovely day's adventure.

Maybe northern France around Remembrance Day 11/11 might be interesting, a WW1 mini tour near Ypres for Menin Gate ceremony at 8pm ?

Then I would head south to escape possible grey skies and drizzle.
Nice as a base and take a tour of Antibes, Eze, Monaco.
Sete for a seafood lunch.
Avoid grubby Marseille.
All the places mentioned by @VPS upthread, and also Carcassone with views to the Pyrennes. You can stay right within the walled city.

We have a few days to spend in gay Paree in June, any tips for special gems much appreciated.

Gardens of Versailles and Monets Garden. It’s just like the paintings.

Walk along the Seine and watch the gypsy tricks.

Take a Bateux boat along the Seine.

Take a photo of the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero.

Walk through Notre Dame. The queue moves very quickly.

Go to Montmartre and up to Sacre Coeur.

Get lost in the Old Quarter. Look at the bookstalls along the Seine. We bought 4 small Paris prints for 5 euro.

Sainte Chapelle on a sunny day.

Go up the top of Arc de Triomphe at nighttime to see the Eiffel Tower lit up on the hour.

How many weeks are you there?

My wish list for France next time is Monet gardens (it was closed when we went to Paris/work project) and Normandy.

Behind Notre Dame is a Jewish memorial. Kinda hard to find because its in the back corner of the rear garden with a old dude, Im glad we found it.

While youre on that side of Notre Dame, look for Berthilllon icecream.

I have visited many regions in France in the last 10 years. For November, I agree with VPS to head south to Avignon, an easy TGV 2h 40m train trip. Buy your ticket 3 months in advance and get a great first class price. (Prems). So easy to do day trips or rent a car from Avignon. I love Provence and surrounds and great wine. If staying in Paris there are some great food walking tours that can be done. Or a few days to Strasbourg by TGV, but it will be cold in November but if late November then the Christmas market in Strasbourg is fantastic.

We were told to go to Le tour Montparnasse because it is the only place in paris you get a panoramic view of Paris without Le tour Montparnasse in the view!
We had dinner there-Le Ciel De Paris. Was fully expecting an overpriced tourist trap but it was very good.helped i guess that our waiter was Australian.

Couldn’t agree more. I still haven’t been to the Louvre even though I studied art and adore art Galeries :p and people keep pushing me to go. I can’t stand the ignorant and shoving crowds

I hear you! One of my degrees is in Art History but loathe traipsing around art galleries. I think I did about an hour in Louvre and the same in MOMA. Bypassed the Tate, NPG and NatGal in London. I did go to Milan for a day to see the Last Supper though - and cried on seeing it.

I think my one exception will be the Uffizi. But that even shows my dislike of them - all my travels and I’ve not prioritised Florence!
