So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Just in case, i should point out it is most definitely not a luxury car. 🤣
All really depends on your definition of luxury. It's certainly more luxurious than a base Corolla

But Tesla with their spartan interior focus, limited model differentiation or option list, certainly have less premium bits. And only vegan leather.

Note DasColonel is sticking with a European made car (current Tesla Y P in Australia comes from the Berlin factory, all other Aus models from Shanghai, only S/X and 3s until 2020 came from Fremont).

I should add for those that don't know that vegan leather is essentially vinyl.

Note that BMW Senstatec and Sensafin, Mercedes MB-Tex and a whole lot of others brands use synthetics in most of their models, though do generally provide $$ upgrades for real leather.

Alcantara is also completely synthetic.

I only chime to this thread every now and again. Sure I have owned MG's an 'A' then upgraded to the 'B' 72 flow through, and at one point was given my sisters car to fix, a MGB 68. I still have a 48 Riley 2.5 and will most likely get the 28 9hp that my brother does not want.

Fast forward many years, I am now after a lotus. I mentioned to my beloved (wife) that the the ground hight to roof top was around 1.1m or there about. I was informed that will not happen, we are to old. Go figure, as this old boy can still get in and out of a Lotus.

Some nice cars there. I have been giving half a thought to the bittsa MGRV8. Any thoughts? I keep coming back to Morgans but there are some maintenance issues to consider.

From this report, the German made Tesla Y has quality problems too.

“The German-made Model Y’s defect rate marks the worst TÜV has seen for nearly new cars in a decade. It even outdoes the Model 3, which had previously held the dubious distinction of worst reliability for two years. The main trouble areas included suspension, braking systems, and lighting equipment. By comparison, the Mini Cooper SE recorded a 3.5% defect rate, demonstrating that even complex electric vehicles can still achieve high reliability.”

Minor problems actually
Surface rust on the brake disc - but EVs rarely use the mechanical brakes to slow down and stop - so surface rust often appear on the brake discs but in Germany this is enough to fail rego.

The other ones were noisy control arm bushes and lastly headlight aiming issues and rear brake lights not illuminating at the exact time the brake pedal was pressed or when regenerative braking activates.

If cabin silence is a factor in the "luxury" calculation, Tesla is not know for it.

Nevertheless, Europeans do not consider Tesla to be a quality brand. The opinion is not due to Eurocentricity as other Chinese EVs are making significant inroads into the European market relative to Tesla. Some say that it is due to anti Musk sentiment but that is an easy excuse because all purchases are morally compromised to some degree.

I have 2 Model Y but these were made in China - which are considered by many to be the best quality factory for Tesla cars though Berlin is close.

Thank you @prozac - If it turns out to be collectable, so be it. If it lasts that long. The car has as many squeaks and rattles as a 25 year old commodore, but I guess they are now collectable too.
Not many AMG's become collectable and the handful that do have mostly been Black Series. The rest keep depreciating due to the way the Germans over engineered things that require way too much labour to replace.
