So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

3 star ANCAP which is pretty good.

No smilie there so assuming you’re serious, in 2019 anything less than 5 stars isn’t “pretty good”.

Accepting there has been a methodology change so a 2014 5* car isn’t as good as a 2019 5* car.

They also had significant problems with the ESC calibration, issues with the “moose test” and calibration of the emergency auto braking.

But of course, for those really wanting one, none of that will matter!

Noting of course for a “specialist” type car, crash ratings don’t seem to deter sales (Hello 2*/3* Mustang.......)

Latest rental is a Nissan Juke, one letter is wrong in the model name, horrible in a word!
Big, but you can't fit 2 suitcases in the hatch part. Fuel economy seems way worse than the Kuga/Escape we had last week. So it has none of the advantages of a SUV, except slightly higher sitting position.
It also seems to have been used as a 'recce' vehicle last week. Recce for WRC is done at road speed and no more than 50kph on stages, but some of them were quite rough. There was some documentation left in the car.

IMHO, this vehicle is a true case of style over function. I thought we were getting a Clio, anyway, see what next Sunday throws at us.

Mr Clipped is a Holden Man. We have (as of today's date):
  • (1) x 1977 Deep Purple HX Holden one tonner V8 that sounds like the world is coming to an end. It makes babies cry.
  • (2) x 2006 VZ Gen IV 6l V8 bright red Holden Thunder SS's (last of the models produced and worth more to him than me. I think he will be buried in one of these).
  • (1) x 1995 VS Holden Caprice 5l V8 - a beautiful and classic old girl that still turns heads. Got this in 1998 after a single owner CEO traded up. It had 32k clicks on the clock and was immaculate. We sold it when Child #4 was born - only to find it 10 years later on Gumtree. Mr Clipped then drove said Child #4 (now 10 years old) to Bathurst and thrashed the Mountain like Brock.
  • (1) x 2008 WM 6l V8 Holden Caprice - my family car. Look good, sounds great - and beats most cars in pole position at the stoplights. My kids are never late for school......
  • Lastly, the work truck is an old 2000 gutsy Holden one tonner. Best delivery vehicle we ever had. Probably earned more money for our business than we have.
This list is (always) subject to change without notice. And don't get me started on the insurance & rego costs................

How things change, , never thought I needed hill assist start, nor parking sensors, but after having them on our cars for a few years then renting a car that doesn't have them, they do actually seem quite useful.

Next time in Sardinia, rent a 'small' vechicle and take far less luggage.

Hill start, parking sensors, reversing cameras, autoreverse park, speed limited cruise control, approaching blind spot side traffic alert when reversing. Autobrake if collision impending in any direction.

lane keeping auto steering, auto windscreen, auto headlight dipping.

I find the top section very accurate. The bottom section is not accurate or has a delay.

Victoria is increasing taxes on luxury cars so probably a good idea to buy interstate if you're looking at models within that category.

Apparently doesn't apply to demonstrators...so I expect there'll be more of them.

Traded in my X5 and eagerly awaiting the arrival of an X7, it’s on the ship now :)
In the meantime I have a little X2 to run around in so going to find it hard to go back to a giant tank !!

Didn't you just get that (X5) ..or is time flying.

I wouldn't mind an I-Pace. But, now that I'm a retiree, I guess I'd better refrain.
