So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Velar still has the new model premium pricing. They are aiming for those who must have the car now. End of line models are better value

...

Does the RRS/caravan have antisway?

All new Touareg will be released at the Beijing Motor Show on 23/03.
They have driven one across from Slovakia, would have been fun.

Even my dealer admits that the asking prices of the Velar and new Discovery are both about $10k over what they were expecting. From what I gather, there's quite a bit of resistance at their current levels.

They both do.

Hmm maybe Ill wait for some excess stock to gather on the showroom floor. That usually puts pressure on the dealers to spring clean

3 rows like the Q7?

Nope, it is a little larger as it is on the same platform as the new Cayenne , but no third row.
Plenty of body vids around but no pics of the dash yet which is supposed to be very spiffy.
Rear wheel steer which probably ends any pretence of serious off road capability.

I'm a bit locked in to tyres, and their lack of a spare.

This is the big, and not quite so big....

Lack of a spare - as in the tyre dealers?. Whats the 21 tyre?
Nice rims though. How many clamshells did you give the dealer for the 5x20?

Id be happy to ponce around in either

Most new cars, be they a small hatch or a large SUV, simply do not have a spare tyre at all. Worst of all, they don't have any space to put the large lump you've just had to remove. The RRS carries a full sized spare. But that's increasingly rare.

Whats the 21 tyre?

A Continental 275/45*21.

Dealer, nothing. They came from a tyre store in Sydney. The Pirellis are worth about $450 each. The wheels as spares from LR about $1200 each. The whole set of five cost $3k delivered. The tyres are Pirelli Scorpions in 255/55*20.

Oldegs have a space saver, no idea about the newcomer.
It's better than nothing but I wouldn't go anywhere serious without a full size spare on the roof.
Otoh , the supplied compressor is high quality and a minor puncture can be plugged on the car in no time flat.

The only vehicle in the VW non commercial range that has full size spare is the VW Alltrack/Wagon
The golf Alltrack and wagon has space to drop in a full but has a space saver which means it’s actually a space waster
The Golf hatch needs a minor modification (cutting a bit off some plastic trim to make a full size fit
The Touareg and tiguan are all space savers. Why call it an SUV then?

I think only 3 hatchbacks have full size spare
Citroen c4, Hyundai i30, Kia Cerato. The Corolla has full size but only in the sedan

I'm rambling a bit…but.. took the truck to the local tyre joint for a very slow leak repair.
An hour later the old girl was parked out the front resplendent in her (yellow striped) space saver.
"We tried to plug the hole but it was still leaking a bit.. you need 2 (really4) new tyres, the leaking wheel is in the back."
Drove to supercheap, bought a bottle of sealant
Went home and put the leaking tyre back on, deflating the space saver was nifty, it just folded itself back into the rim.
Went for a drive, checked the repair, leak sealed , game over
Needs tyres soon anyway.. but at least I get time to sort out a deal...

The new Toyota Camry hybrid from Japan is in short supply in Australia. We are very pleased with the quality and fuel efficiency and don’t mind waiting for the deliveries. The trunk space has been fixed so they are quite suitable as reps cars. NAB has been winning the most recent 3 year HP deals on these cars at just over 4% interest. We run the debt to zero over 36 months.

Thanks for the comparison . I’ve been offered a “chattel mortgage” with rate of 4% through a finance company (4.04% net)
Any of the “1% deals” through the dealers assumes purchase at full undiscounted price which may or may not be attractive.

You don’t use a residual?

Purchase negotiations usually include payment with a CC to harvest some points as well.

Because we have more than 30 work cars and utes we don’t want any “blue sky” in our cars. We never sell them out during a financed period and so far none have been ‘totalled in a crash” in the last 30 or so years. We use Navman to know where our cars are so if one was stolen our staff member could go with the police to pick it up and hopefully arrest the thief.
We don’t fluff up the new vehicle purchase price so no credit card use on these new cars.
We have many credit card opportunities but with asset purchasing we simply go best price.
Toyota can often have pretty low cost car finance so I have used their 4 year interest free offer for a family member as the price wasn’t lowered for a cash purchase. It isn’t totally free. There is an admin fee.

Silly term anyway. But, the lack of a real spare almost always goes with the lack of a spot to put a removed flat tyre...which is, in itself, limiting. The Touareg has much to offer as a tourer, but having no reasonable options for a spare ruled it out of our consideration. Same for the Porsche...though you don't see many of them in caravan parks.

I carried a full sized spare in my Golf R32, and carry one in the S3. They're pretty big wheels, and so do interfere with the remaining space, but by carrying the spare with the outside down, it gives some of that space back.
