So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Ha the comments are all quite negative :) But I do like the looks of it (though I also love the new impreza which most people hated).

Ignore the comments section. Anything not designed for hooning or non-European gets slammed on that site. Honda is one of the best budget brands IMO. And that particular model is rebadged in some markets as the Acura (think Honda's Lexus) CSX, so assuming all specs (though don't expect leather, wood etc) are the same you get some premium motoring at a budget price!

MY10 Honda Accord Euro SatNav Lux Model

and to embrace my inner bogan:

MY09 SS V Ute

A Lexus 600HL and a Lexus 450H are really lovely.
Then I get to Los Angeles and drive a Chevy Malibu pos as a hire car!

I change my leased car every three years and after two Camrys, and a Subaru Liberty, I now a Subaru Heritage (upmarket Liberty with leather etc) and I am so impressed I think my next will be the Subaru Impreza. With two kids, although now teenagers, safety is the most important feature.

On Order: RR Ghost

Tasty.

Once we decided to settle back in NYC, we came to the conclusion that we only really need one car in Sydney, Paris and Jackson, and one each in New York.

At the moment my partner is wrestling with a Porsche 911 turbo, which goes like the proverbial shower, but rides like an bullock-dray. It's just the worst car I can imagine to drive around the city in. Yeesh...

Anyhoo, I had a drive of the Ghost, and still went back and ordered a Bentley Mulsanne instead. Only marginally less impractical than the 911, but orders of magnitude more comfortable.

Until it arrives I'm stuck with the CL600, with which I am very bored, because it's really a very boring car.

I fail to understand what is so special about an expensive re-badged Toyota. Can you enlighten me please :?:

Knew it was only a matter of time before Toyota jibes appear. Now I don't know which is worse - a rebadged Toyota or a debadged 320i/318i with M Sport labels all over it.

The only rebadged Toyotas are the Lexus ES (Camry) which isn't sold in Australia (anymore), and the GX (Prado) and LX (Landcruiser) . I don't understand why people buy those either when the Toyota equivalent is just as great and looks identical. Surely not just for 'badge cred', given people still generally perceive Euro marques to be superior.

But the rest of the range is super - Lexus is all about the comfort and providing a cocooning experience. Ride comfort, cabin ambience, and isolation are the best amongst the luxury marques (IS F notwithstanding). I felt like i was driving via remote control, floating on a magic carpet when we rented a Lexus IS250 in Perth, and loved being able to accelerate up to freeway speeds whilst feeling like I'm only doing 40kmh. As for Mum's LS, it's almost more comfy than my lounge room and i could practically live in it! I suppose it depends what you look for in a car - if you like the 'driving experience' then BMW is for you. Personally, I'm tired of the heavy steering and harsh ride quality in my 1 series, test drove the 3 series LCI coupes which weren't better. Mercs are a nice mix of both comfort and being drivers' cars but often at least $20k more expensive than the competition. Not sure where Audi falls in other than they have really pretty cars... the OH doesn't like the way they handle and I find the comfort level not much better than BMW though the salesman did say the ride gets better with smaller wheels and removing the S-line suspension so I might give them another go. Design-wise you really can't go wrong with Audis, they're like the W Hotels of cars!

'Heritage' or lack thereof isn't my concern. Most important thing is how a car actually feels. I am glad that Lexus and Infiniti (which is coming to Oz soon!) have done so well and have kept the traditional luxury brands honest. And Acura fills a very nice niche between budget and luxury.

In saying that, the only Lexus line I'm interested in is the IS. The IS250C is one of the convertibles I'm looking at (the other is the A5; I also loved the E250 cabriolet but not thrilled about paying $20k extra and not even getting nappa leather as standard). Or RX if I'm looking for an SUV but I have no need for all that extra space. The rest of the Lexus range have rather bland and uninspiring designs.

Last mode of transport was a Honda CBR600RR which was sold about 5 years ago when I started my current job. Since then haven't owned a vehicle (wife has a small car which we use to run around).

When I get the time I'd love to buy an old mazda/datto/celica and restore it. Damn I miss my RX-3! :(

I liked the whole concept of the Ghost. To me it suited a younger buyer and whilst I liked the Bentley GT... Here in Melbourne it seems that there is one on every street.

I did not consider the Mulsanne but that was more due to ignorance on my part rather than not liking it!

Considering I have been a Bentley owner I was not given any information about the Mulsanne at all. RR OTOH... Sent me out a teaser brochure etc which is what got me interested in the car in the first place.

Have you driven the ne CL63 with the 5.5 Litre turbo?? IMHO it is a better "drivers" car than the CL600 which is more about luxury rather than driving.

Currently driving a 2009 Aurion Presara, but signed on the dotted line Friday for a Nissan Maxima 350 Ti with all the bells and whistles ( Champagne )

I currently drive a 2010 BMW 123d, and optioned it to the hilt (professional navigation, performance wheels etc). Great handling and torque from the diesel.

Before that I had a 2007 335i Sedan - which I still miss... :( ... twin turbo 6 cylinder...

Please don't take this wrong as it is a serious question.

There are nothing like an 'expensive rebadged Toyota'.

Have you ever sat inside a Lexus LS460? Extremely luxurious and the best build quality this side of bespoke vehicles. ;)

I'd take a new 7 Series or current S Class, but the Lexus is a very nice place to be.

VZ Commodore. Stock everything. In fact, was an ex-fleet car. It has a good 80 000km on the clock left. I'll worry about a new car then.

When I am in Japan and I rent, it's usually a Toyota wagon. An Ipsum or something similar.

As I stated, it was not a jibe but a serious question :!:

I do admit to being a little defensive about the whole 'rebadged Toyota/Nissan' stigmas that their respective luxury marques carry. I wouldn't buy Infinitis myself as they compete in the 'drivers' cars' arena and are just as uncomfortable as BMWs IMO but friends who look for performance and handling swear by them. I appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of each marque.

Nah... Jaguar XJ or Audi A8.
