I'm an Accor+Platinum member and over the years I have earned and redeemed suite night upgrade (SNU) awards at various Luxury properties including most recently the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto (review coming soon). While I do enjoy using these upgrades as they have saved me a heap of money (with my current stay I'm saving $2600 CAD by using 3 of these SNUs), one thing that I noticed was that not all suite types at an Accor property are eligible for applying SNUs to. For instance, at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, while I can apply an SNU to a Prestige Suite, I cannot apply it to go all the way up to the Wentworth Suite. Similarly at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour whilst I can apply the SNU to get a Prestige Suite I cannot use it to go all the way up to the Bellerive Suite. Is this a limitation of SNUs in general or is this a decision an individual property makes?

Cheers,

James

Individual property decision.

9.4.5 Eligible rooms

Eligible rooms vary by hotel. Certain suites may be excluded, such as Presidential suites and VIP suites.

Each type of room eligible for this benefit is paired with a specific type of suite at each hotel offering the benefit. The room type eligible may not be the standard room type.

The individual availability of the “room” and of the “suite” is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the use of a Suite Night Upgrade Suite Night Upgrade on a given day. In any case, the “suite” and the “room” must be booked at the same sales conditions of rate.

It’s an individual hotel decision but most of the decent properties aren’t going to basically give away their best rooms as they are often reserved for VIP’s or high tier status holders.
Sometimes you might get lucky but as a rule most properties only apply SNU’s to their “base” suites

Based on what I can see of the mathematical gymnastics in pricing rooms with SNUs, it seems the hotels are being reimbursed by ALL. I guess that puts a limit on how far they are willing to go,

That's my assumption too, but I don't know how the SNU values are calculated. They don't appear to be a static value, you can see what a hotel values them at from the credit line on a folio.

From my emails..

In Jun 2023 a SNU was worth 467.24 SGD at Swissotel Singapore.
In Jan 2024, 7172 PHP at Fairmont Manila.
In Nov 2025, 328.05 SGD at Swissotel Singapore.
