Just wondering how many users here get SMS spam? I'm usually hit with it about 2 to 3 times a week.

I put it down to the fact that my mobile number is very repetitive. 04XX YYY ZZZ.

This is the latest one I got.

FreeMsg:please reply OK to 19997778 to join IQ Wallpapers service. Helpline:1300767306 $5.00 sign up + $5.00/msg 3x/wk IQ Wallpapers. Sam Media

I always ring the 1300 number and do the opt out but I still keep getting them.

I log SMS spam (although don't get it frequently). Escalated it once, and had a company officially warned, they never spammed me again. (this was spam for a music events organiser).

I always save the spam and report.

No use calling the number to opt-out. Waste of your time IMHO.

Thanks Mal! I'll try this, hopefully this reduces it somewhat

I got Telstra to prevent me from using premium numbers from my phone. Somehow that prevents them from sending SMS to me, as well as stopping me send to them. Works pretty well however I can't text ABC radio with my comments. I've also been getting Telstra spam recently.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Thanks for the link Mal. I don't get many over the year, but I will report them from now on.

and forward all SPAM SMS to [h=2]0429 999 888[/h]
Great service (if it works)

Update: I forward 2 or 3 to the spam reporting service. Never got any feedback, but they have magically stopped! Not had one in weeks!

I hardly ever get SMS spam apart from a local RSL and Best Western. I could opt out of both if I wanted though.

A few years ago I was receiving regular SMS for some junior rugby league touch football training sessions. Apparently some parents had given my number as a contact number (I am assuming accidentally) and I lost count of the number of phone calls I made asking them to stop sending the SMS.

I am in the middle of receiving email from ozthongs. This is the company at the middle of the living social things scam, and they seem to find pleasure in sending unsolicited email without any way of unsubscribing.
Real PITA material.

I got this too!

My reply was as follows:
"
Hi.

Your email does not have an unsubscribe button, and your website does not seem to work with the coupon anyway, so it is most likely like your previous bait and switch attempts, taking thousands of orders and cancelling them later.

Please remove ALL of my details from your database, as you are required to do under the Privacy Act. As your unsolicited email does not comply with anti-spam regulations, I have also reported you to the ACMA, and will encourage others to do so.

Thank you for wasting yet more of my time. This all could have been avoided had you simply shipped some thongs, which one would have thought was the entire aim of the company.

The following is taken from ACMA - Spam Act FAQ, the antispam website.
"Unsubscribe

Finally, all commercial electronic messages must contain an unsubscribe facility. This means there must be instructions on how you can opt-out of receiving messages. Whatever consent you may have given to receiving commercial electronic messages, you can withdraw it if you no longer wish to receive those messages. You should always use the same email address to unsubscribe as that used to subscribe.

A message sender has five working days to act on unsubscribe requests, and they will often be dealt with more quickly.

If a message does not contain an easy to use unsubscribe facility, the message should be reported to the ACMA."
"

I also encourage anyone else to send a spam report.

I get mainly work related spam SMS's.

On a bad day I had nearly a hundred but that was exceptional, someone set up a service wrongly.

i generally get 1 or 2 a month.

STRAITMAN

I sent the reply yesterday, and no, I haven't received a reply yet. I presume they don't man the sales@ email address because they aren't actually a store that sells things. They take money for a while then refund it.

I love search tools :)

I've started getting some more SMS spam. 2 this month already. Searched for this thread as I knew there was a number in it to forward spam to. Now sent them on!
