Hey there people,

I have done a search but cannot find much info on the plight of smokers these days. Admittedly am newish to this forum so perhaps there is something. If so close me down and point me to the right direction.

What I really want is to share tips on smoking options at airports. I mainly cruise around South America and to Australia (BNE and SYD) either direct or via the USA. Almost always OW. And it is such a hit and miss universe for those of us that have this habit. LAN Flounge at SCL has smoking den, as do lounges in Lima, but otherwise it is hard in South America. Likewise in the USA, DFW is about the only airport I frequent with smoking lounges. If you get off the beaten track, places like Denver have non-lounge options, but my principal ports of MIA and LAX do not, hence multiple trips out thru security.

But I also get to visit a few other countries, so would appreciate tips on almost any airport.

Is there an up-to-date resource for looking these things up rather than try to find out upon arrival at a new airport? Basic info such as the existence of smoking capsules at places like BKK and FRA is invaluable.

For the non-smokers amongst us, each to their own :)

Never smoked but I recall the GW lounge PER had a smoking courtyard Was very handy when dad dropped me off for a flight.

With new security measures I am sure very few airports allow this now.

I was wondering myself if the smoking balcony at BNE int was still there.

Yes, it certainly is! And such a scenic place it is. A great spot to hang out and admire the calibre of person that is your fellow smoker.

Thanks serfty, excellent list to start with.

I laughed at the notes on Saudia Arabia - people smoking near bins at the gate itself! The most smoker-friendly airport I have come across recently was AUA (Aruba) where there is a bar with smoking allowed literally at the gates. Can't beat that. :)

I also noticed in the list that there is a reference to an outdoor smoking area in MIA, in concourse D "near the American Eagle gates". Has anyone ever found this and used it??

You, too, could be just like my brother, who died recently of both lung cancer and a brain tumour. Guess what was the cause!

sinophile888, I am very sorry for your loss. I know smoking is a horrendously bad thing to do. I know it dramatically increases my chance of certain cancers, I know it costs a fortune, I know it reduces my capacity for exercise, etc. And it stinks. But this thread was not meant to be a debate about health and life choices.

Lol.... I value ANY smokers balcony as anywhere is better than nowhere. However the clientelle that frequent such balconies are usually not tres chic: The BNE lounge is the worst IME.

That quite possibly could be because smoking is not trés chic!

(Sorry i'm the worst kind of smoker... a reformed one!).

There's always quitting, which avoids your need to find a bar/smoking area (or those 'lovely' smoking booths in FRA sponsored by the tobacco companies; I saw some young kid, couldn't have been over 18, having to go in to clean the air 'scrubbers' in the booths; I can't think of many worse jobs than that!).

Sorry rant over, yes, life choices and all that :)
