Surreal (and slightly upsetting) watching this break on the TVs at the baggage carrousels at MEL. Awful.

Have a family member due to fly BRU-DXB-MEL at 2:30ish local. Have been on hold with Qantas for over an hour now. Was hoping for a reroute out of AMS but it will be interesting to see what they can do

Oh dear. Another suicide attack. What has the world come to.

Prayers for all the victims and their families. RIP for all victims.

Have been watching it on Sky as well. My brother is in England and reports that he's okay and a couple of people he knows in BRU have reported in on social media. Says that the explosions are in retaliation for the arrest of the terrorist last week

The ABC is woefully behind the news.
In addition to the 2 explosions at the airport there have been four explosions at different metro stations across Brussels.
truly awful.

There appears to have only been a bombing at one Metro Station, with the sound resonating in the tunnels causing the reports of multiple bombs.

I would hardly say "even in Pakistan". It is a given in Pakistan. It is also the case in Indian airports and with varying degrees of enforcement (ranging from none- quite strict) in Indonesian & Philippines airports, all places with good reason to do so. There are also security checks for entry into major hotels, and often major shopping centres (again with varying degrees of enforcement). Those who have the peverse motivation to do this sort of damage don't confine themselves just to airports - as we have seen in Paris, London, Mumbai, Bali, Jakarta and Madrid in the last 10-15 years.

Very sad what has happened. Thoughts to the families of the victims.

Sky now advising a Kalashnikov assault rifle has been found next to body of deceased terrorist at the airport. Some interesting videos now being released from people in the check-in area cowering after the bomb has gone off and abandoned luggage still in the check-in lines

Belgian police now advising they have found an unexploded bomb belt in the check-in area...thank god for that!
