SkyBus gone up again [Now $23.90 one way]

$18 one way of a return tix, only purchaseable on their app, maybe too on their website, but I have the app.
If you do a single, its $22 one way.
If you buy a return, it will be $36.
I think that was the last trip, I had bought it few weeks ago, for this past 15 & 16, ie this month.
Will check my card statement.

Just finished using my last Placie (RIP) voucher, they were very useful and saved me heaps on my regular SkyBus commute. Klook also used to have some decent promos. Seems cheapest option ATM is the 10 trip ticket at $160.

I'm surprised bus 901 never became popular. Still only a handful of travellers per bus. The 5-10min walk to the bus stop must be putting people off even if it means a $13-$18 saving. A win for Melbourne Airport (and Skybus) I suppose.

Alot of the skybus pax are visitors to MEL who wouldn't have a myki and would see skybus as the first thing leaving the terminal with lots of advertising / visability (and the easiest option in google maps)

The 901 is the longer scenic trip and there’s no signposting at the Airport to find it and besides it doesn’t go direct to the city.

so there’s the convenience of walking between the bus stop and over the footbridge at Broadmeadows to get on the city-bound train

The 901 is fine if time is not an issue. The problem is that the bus timetable is not connected to the train so apart from the extra walk-bus-train trip there can be and often is a long wait in between which means quite a long journey from airport to city and vv.

It just seems unusual to me that the 901 will only get a handful of travellers, if that, every 15 mins. MEL is a busy airport and is a Jetstar and Bonza hub so one would think that there would be a lot of budget conscious travellers who are not in a hurry. But I guess not.

I assume it’s a regular bus? If so, travelling with luggage is a PITA. Which gives SB the edge also - luggage racks.

I have a Myki but I really wouldn’t consider a bus/train combo. I find PT in MEL can be very hit and miss.

Its a fair walk from T1 though.
Also, you are supposed to use a Myki to tap on and tap off.
Maybe people do not know it exist, as there is no sign from T1/T2/T3/T4 to that particular bus stop under the multi story car park.
People see SB, and wow, man, its very popular, very pricey, but very popular.
Downstairs on the double decker, seating is very limited, so have to go upstairs, and to guarantee a seat, have to pick up at T3/T4/in the car park zone.
After taxes and tolls, I think SB just sort of breaks even, or maybe a smallish profit.
From looking at the app and their website, and if the RACV/NRMA discount wasn't mentioned, I would not know it existed.
But it seems, that there is other discount apart from the app.

If the Victorian Government were the least bit interested in public transport, which quite clearly they're not since cancelling airport rail, they would force the airport to accept 901 to drop and pickup at each terminal.

It's not a footbridge at Broadmeadows but a tunnel under the line with slopes rather than steps so pretty easy with luggage.

Here are a couple, untried, offers that can reduce the cost. Pelgao, the Singapore associated travel site, allow you to buy Skybus tickets.

At the moment Amex holders might have a spend $100 get $35 back offer with Pelago.
Pelago allows you to buy 3 x return Skybus tickets for $35 each so $105. That would mean 6 tickets for $70.

I didn't book but went through the process and there are a couple of things to note.
You can only book adult and child tickets, no seniors.

Pelago allows you to select the date of travel but I expect that these work the same way as other Skybus tickets, that is, that they are only valid for 3 months. Unless they send them on the date requested then the 3 months validity will probably start from the date of purchase.

You could always try a date in advance and see what happens and report back.
Otherwise, assume that you would have 6 tickets to use in 3 months.
