SkyBus gone up again [Now $23.90 one way]

Has been approved in the master plan attached

There was a bit of a quiet pause in the meeting for a few seconds.

The same group, were also looking at buying I think it was Darwin Airport which then was reasonably new. They said how awful the departures area was. I thought that was a bit odd, I previously lived in Darwin and it was a good modern airport. After checking in, you could go straight to the lounge or the gate with little fuss. No, no, they said, that’s hopeless. What they would do if they bought the airport was put about five bends in the corridor and about 30 more shops before anyone could get near an aircraft.

These guys knew how to run an airport!
If I was the owner and needed cash?

Of course everyone except Skybus and the Toll operator for the Tullamarine "freeway" will be happy the rail will get to MEL airport Tullamarine.
The Vic govt will be too.
Just think about the money the airport and the Vic govt will make from the gate charge, if they can get $6 per exit and per entry into the airport railway station, it would be quite a lot over the life of 10/15/20 years, and considering too, that there is no talk of another airport ever coming in.
Unlike Sydney, at KSA, that will loose/lose a significant amount of traffic once Western Sydney Airport comes on in a few years time.
If PER can have it for no "gate fee" or is it only $1 gate fee, why can't Vic?
But guess Vic govt has to recoup its spending somehow.

Oblige me just once more, does anyone know if Skybus purchases on their own app has any of their own (internal) points earning rewards.
Apart from the buy 10 single rides capability, if it had a validity of more than a year, I would buy to use their 10 stub tix.

Not that I am aware of ... when online booking you get the option of enorolling in "something", but what it actually provides (other than more spammy emails), I know not.

OffT: Myki machine now near ABF (where you pay fines) downstairs at MEL, really it's T1.
Next to (closed) welcome centre.
Near disabled toilets on the inside of the terminal.
Look for the blue disabled loo sign.
The former location of Myki at T3, it's no longer there.OnT.
Will put another reply in proper Myki public transport thread when I have time.
It's a pain to find new location.
Uber has taken over taxi zone outside T2.

Heh, how many more years before the train gets up to Tullamarine Airport, then we will see.
O, I am too young to get the Seniors one, years to go yet.
Would be nice if their 10 trip lasted longer than a year tho, but we only can dream.

considering too, that there is no talk of another airport ever coming in.

There has always been talk of an airport near Western Port (ish) and the perennial chatter about Avalon being upgraded. It will probably happen but not in my lifetime, and I suspect not yours.

Apart from WA being more fiscally prudent, this is how the DPRV makes money.

But guess Vic govt has to recoup its spending somehow.

I guess I shouldn't complain about being a beneficiary of the communist state of Victoria's largesse, which allows me to fund my travel.

Old pooch, more so, rather than kid.
I know they say not to put too much identifying info, but my pooch muzzle fur is now old (all) grey.
Anyone reading this, who still plans to use the AT Hop in Auckland for a while yet, if you know you can recharge it online, from Aust, via their (AT) website, and you touch your AT Hop onto a reader (non train entry reader) at Britomart, or at a train station fare reader (big stubby one), in Auckland, its not till you actually touch your card onto a transport Hop machine (slim thin stand alone reader) that the overseas credit appears.
The big stubby readers, at Britomart, didn't list my overseas recharge, but after checking my Hop account, it does list as the credit was added on my touch onto the small thin ferry standalone Hop reader.
One of our colleagues on here mentioned, that Hop will be phased out in 2025, good to know, so I can use down the credit on the card.
Nzd$58 left, AT Hop fares over there are so cheap.

Looks like no rewards these days of booking Skybus trips on their app.
Yes, the app keeps their tix in one place, and also to avoid the Broady mob, Skybus is best fir a party if one.
Still not cheap, and have to navigate Melbourne at night, if arr is now till sunrise.
===
Ps: Skydrive is very good.
Not cheap, but excellent service.

For my purposes, Skybus app is only good for 2 things. To buy a 10 trip ticket and to hold all tickets in one place.
Otherwise I find the best discounted price possible through promo codes or using RACV/NRMA.

Does NRMA still have a code? I couldn’t find one last time I needed SB tix.

Are there promo codes???? I have never been able to find one!

Oh… i found so,e discounts through RACV and NRMA. Interestingly RACV is $1 more each way than NRMA!

U fortunately looks like the discount is only for 1 x round trip max… so i’d save $1.40 per trip over a carnet. But… have to buy separate tickets each week :(

I'm not sure. I can find the link in the NRMA app but it errors when I click on it.
Found it. There’s several listings when you search, but

“SkyBus Tullamarine Airport to Melbourne City”

Seems to work $18.70 oneway / $30.60 return.

Damned if I could find that a couple of weeks ago!

I was in a rush Friday night so I just used the self service tic at T3

Full double decker bus though
Was a treat and the bus ride was less than $1 a minute

Jokes
Not public transport rates

Yes, ridiculous rates. I take the Broadmeadow route unless I have a discounted ticket.

Appalling that they are so in league with the VIC government that their private service appears on government transport maps and is the first option that appears on the PTV app.
