Skybed update

We are flying QF26 Los Angeles to Auckland on Tuesday August 2. Does anyone know if the new Skybed has been fitted yet?

Currently this flight is a 3-class 744 being sold as 2-class. At the moment the following first class seats are still available: 1A/K, 2A, 3A/K, 4A/E/K.

So if you can get yourself those then it will be better, other than that, yes the normal business class section are sky beds for now. Of course Qantas could switch planes on you prior to 2nd of August.

I would take the first class beds over the skybed as it is fully flat. My biggest dislike (have a few) of the skybed is that when in an aisle seat (preference), the way the arm rest goes down makes me feel as if i'm going to roll out into the aisle during the flight and therefore less privacy (I'm probably one of the few that would take the dreamtime seats over skybed).

With the seats mentioned earlier in first class, if you are flying with anyone else, with the current availability you will have to sit apart (not that big a deal). Same service as business class but better seats.

Thanks again. This is great! I am flying with my wife and I don't know how she will view sitting apart - unless we were opposite. But most people are kind enough to move if they are travelling alone. I will check the config of the aircraft. I travelled to Qatar on their new skybed which is the same as Qantas - and very good service incidentally - and I slept better than I do in 'cradle seats.' While I am on - I fly business to Melbourne from Christchurch on JetConnect which I believe is Qantas owned. Wondering what it is like or is it just the same as Qantas. Thanks again for the info.

I've flown them once in Business on a Brisbane to Christchurch flight. Only 8 seats for business class (2 rows of 2x2 in an old 737-200) so it's very cosy and the food and service are the same as Qantas (Qantas owned - NZ registered entity).

Yes, if we sit apart, I can SNORE as loudly as I like without fear of elbow trauma!!!! I have already been in touch with my travel agent and going to book 4A and E. I take it 1A and 1K and quite a way apart - with nothing in between??

Re JetConnect. If it si a 737 - it will be like BA's Club Europe with not much leg room.

They are further apart than 4A/E due to the closet space at the front. Like you mentioned if the person is travelling alone (hopefully in 4F) then you're a good chance of sitting together.

Got 2A and 3A and will see if we can move to sit together at check-in or on board. Thanks for all your help. I had resigned myself to a dreamtime seat when I booked, so anything more than that is a bonus. Take care - and once more, your advice and info is much appreciated.

For Jet Connect that would be 737-300 aircraft, not -200 series. Its better than BA Club Europe given that QF/JetConnect is 2x2 seating while BA CE is 2x3 seating. But the seat pitch is not like an international 767 operating AKL-SYD.

Check out the Skybed Rollout Schedule on the QF Web site for general up to date position of the roll-out.

As you correctly did here, because QF25/26 are mid-completion, people here can look for you using their access to seat maps.

Of course, there's no guarantee that the plane configuration you have in the seat map will be the plane you fly. The joys of last minute scheduling changes.

Thanks everyone for your info. Much appreciated. I am flying most of my trip business, except Ayers Rock to Sydney on Aug 21. Any tips for a cheap upgrade? Or will I have to pay the full whack?
