News Detail

In a special this weekend only celebration Mt Buller is throwing open the resort to the public this Saturday and Sunday to share the amazing 35cm of early snow blanketing the resort.

“This is the earliest we’ve opened a lift and ski run in the history of Mt Buller resort. The closest was 45 years ago when we opened on the 16 May in 1964, “said Laurie Blampied General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts.

Details:

• Saturday 2 May & Sunday 3 May only.
• Special price ticket: Just $20 for adults, children and sightseers. 2009 season lift pass holders will receive a complimentary lift ticket.

Better get there before the weekend as it's been forecast for the weather to get warmer and melt the early snow.

I know some friends who have already been to Thredbo and Perisher, but had to hike to the top... said it was well worth it :)

Got season passes... for Queenstown.

I've got my ski's, boots and everything else here, but skiing on 35cm of snow doesn't sound like fun. Plus I'd imagine my ski's will be over the weight limit.

I'll wait till then end of June for my snow fun.

Flights to ZQN are very cheap this year. $199 for SYD-ZQN direct and around $260 for BNE-ZQN or BNE-SYD-ZQN on QF.

Normally the flights to ZQN aren't included in the trans-tasman sales...

Plus there's the Big NZ shout on NZ, so you can probably get to ZQN for whatever the cheapest NZ fare to anywhere in NZ is (circa $350 return).

Where are you finding such low Qantas prices. For months they've been around $500 and the seats are selling so it's getting more expensive as far as I can see.

Edit: I just looked and there are some sale fares right now, but they're only available till the end of June (barely the start of the season) and BNE-ZQN is $308 from what I can see.

If you're travelling after June, then you might have to wait till the next round of sales...

I booked 2 months ago thinking I'd be better off, getting the flights cheaper. Luckily, I was right. They may list SYD-ZQN as $199, but for the day we're flying it's still more than we paid, it's listed as $436 and we paid $396. Right at the end of June (so within the sale period).

The current issue is getting back. Flight are approaching $700 in the middle of July (end of school holidays) so we're considering heading up to Auckland to get that LAN flight back.
