Next time Jetstar customers want to check the status of their flight or reserve their seat they can call on the help of the airline’s newest customer service assistant Ask Jess, an artificial intelligence web based chat service.

Jetstar will launch its virtual assistant service on Tuesday, allowing customers to get answers to travel enquiries such as bookings, baggage and seating.

Jetstar said the system simulates human interaction and it spent over 1000 hours developing the Ask Jess knowledge bank to ensure it does just that.

I used it at the weekend (must have been in pre-release?) to get an answer to a question for a relative's upcoming booking to Japan... it seemed to be reasonably smooth, and accurate with translating keywords from my question into results, further narrowing from there. My question was not overly complex, and so I wonder how it would perform in such scenarios. I don't use JQ often (or at all, if I can avoid them!), so unlikely that I will find out...

Cheers.

Dear jess. Why does jetstar charge exhorbitant credit card fees? (Need to try this out to see how well it is trained)
