Most taxis will take credit cards (though it pays to ask first) whereas most limos are cash only. I got caught by this a couple of years ago, long after I had given up changing money at Singapore.

Fortunately the hotel was happy enough to pay the driver and put the $35 on my bill, but that was the last time I took the limo option.
That's exactly what happened to me - I asked to pay via CC but the limo driver only wanted cash, so he came into the hotel lobby and got paid at the desk and $35 went onto my account. Easy enough.

You are right about asking before getting in the taxi - even though many taxis have CC stickers on the windows, they seem to resent accepting payment this way.

Yep, mrs serfty and I had a similar issue when departing our Orchard Rd hotel for airport last Jan.

Swish Merc pulled up and Jenny was keen to take. Airport?, yep, fine; strangely he went general North rather than East; I asked re meter and fare and he piped SGD20 flat; over the odds I knew, but I'll cope.

Got there; waved away CC.. wanted cash! We had SGD14 and that was it, guy seemed mightily peeved off, but took that and ran once he realised we were seriuos!
