Singapore- Is 7 days sufficient

It really depends on how well you handle muggy hot weather. For us who don't handle it so well, after two days we were more than happy to be on our way.

The night zoo is a must - but we found it very frustrating because we went on a Saturday night when it was utterly packed out, and it took over an hour to get in through the one ticket stall that they had opened (as they tried to limit people getting in) and there was then a 40 minute or more wait to get on the little trains that took one around. So we just walked around and it was more fun.

As I said, we were only there for two days, and our last meal left me with a sour note. There was a Tapas bar across the road from our hotel on Orchard Road. The prices for their meals were reasonable, the food was fine, but when I got the bill they had charged us around A$10 per can of Coke Zero - a total tourist ripoff. So check drink prices before you decide to eat somewhere.
Regards,
Renato

Thank you all for your input, at this stage have penciled in 5 days in Singapore before on to Hong Kong. Will seek further information on this destination as needed via a separate post.

Don't really care about muggy weather, the Mrs won't be impressed but she will cope :)

Yeah, not too many days needed.
*Raffles for a Singapore Sling, pretty much a must.
*Sentosa Island resort, avoid everything except the Aquarium....I know the guy that built the shipwreck in the main Mega Aquarium.
(went and saw it last year, very captivating Aquarium. (As a job I build aquarium & Zoo displays in Sealifes in AU....so I know a goodie when I see it ;-)
*Have a couple of expensive drinks on top of Marina Bay Sands...after...
*having a lovely evening at The Gardens on the Bay, see the light show, pretty cool, and then as mentioned earlier go up the Flower tower to the restaurant & Bar for dinner.

Try & get to gardens before dark as there is a lot of acreage, not all need be seen, but worthy of a peek.

Taxis are pretty cheap to get around in the local area, even the airport trip isn't too exxy.

Walk along the riverside during the evenings is nice, dusk till dark...

One note,
don't leave your mobile in your hotel when you leave.

They told me they didn't find it when I rang them from the airport 30 minutes after checkout and before cleaners had been.

Then between then and arriving in Sydney $2200 bill on my Vodafone for Data Roaming had appeared.
Vodafone eventually came to an amicable agreement but it was still a nightmare to deal with.

Anyways, asides from looking after your toys, its a cool place to spend not too much time in, but the time you spend will be cool enough to make your friends & family jealous.

Happy travels, Donavan

I think that is a slightly alcohol-centric take on Singapore. But useful in case irv shares similar tastes, of course.

Really not sure how Singapore-specific this advice is.

Any accommodation recommendations, I am looking at two at the moment, Amoy by Far East Hospitality and Wangz Hotel, need to be near public transport.

Wangz is a good hotel and close to Tiong Bahru, but it might be a 10-minute walk to the MRT, maybe a little more.

Also, it's not as atmospheric as Amoy looks.

I was actually thinking of the Tiong Bahru MRT station, but Outram Park is closer. So you would be fine :)

Only a little further to walk to the river, too.

Wangz is a nice hotel, we enjoyed it being a smaller hotel especially at breakfast. There are some good coffee shops and bakeries in the area. The only downside was there is no swimming pool in the hotel.

For our next stay we are booked into Qunicy.

The battle box at fort canning is worth visiting if you are a history buff. It has just been reopened after a considerable time closed for renovations.
