Hi all,

have a few days planned in Singapore for November. We've already been a couple of times, this trip solely looking for R&R which = a good size pool which gets plenty of sun, good poolside food/bar menu, and a great hotel buffet breakfast.

Yes i know a cheap meal can usually be had with a 5 minute walk to a hawker centre, but sometimes ordering room service and watching a movie is what one needs!

not interested in MBS and don't think previous visits to sosofitel, rendezvous or hilton fit the bill.

any suggestions please?

Swisshotel Merchant Ct is one of my favorites. Good pool with bar and food, great location a short covered walk to the MRT.

Was at marina mandarin hotel last week - one of the best hotels I've stayed in at Singapore for a while.

Awesome buffet. Great food flawless service. Atrium lobby. Pool was a win.

I booked last minute on hotelquickly and got a very cheap rate.

Stayed at the Ritz Carlton last year and was pretty impressed.

Not a 5 star hotel, but the Novotel Clarke Quay has a very nice pool and cheap breakfast buffet.

why not the MBS? definitely fits the bill re: good pool, menu and buffet brekkie

If it's for R&R if out the way is OK .. maybe the W on Sentosa (with good array of restaurants close by so not completely captive) or one of the other Sentosa hotels. Or take a trip across the straits to Bintan.

W has the best pool in Singapore, but out of the way.

MBS is overly large, gaudy and crowded. Taxis have a surcharge and public transport options are inconvenient with the CE extension.

I prefer the marina or city hall areas- Pan Pac, Conrad etc.
You can walk to the MBS from them, but they are more central overall.

Marina Mandarin is cheap and has a nice pool.

The lobby at MBS is a just as you describe. An awful place to be. However if you can keep yourself to to the rooftop it is quite a nice escape. We spent a one night staycation there, and for 24 hrs we didn't go lower than the 46th floor (or whatever our room was on), had afternoon tea and late some pool side snacks for our evening meal, breakfast in the cafe on the roof and spent most of the time in/around the pool. Mercifully at that time the casino crowd and the rooftop pool crowd seemed to be two almost mutually exclusive groups.

Quite relaxing, and unique. Also the only time I've really got sunburnt in SG.

MBS exec room (expensive yes) is worth it. Beautiful afternoon tea. Exec lounge is in a room above the pool etc. . just don't waste the day shopping. Choose a hotel on Orchard for that

The Westin has a great pool and view too. I stay there regularly.
Food is good there without being brilliant, although like all things in SIN the booze is pricey.

As others have mentioned the W has the best pool, but It's way out of the way.

I vote for the Fairmont. Buffet breakfast by the pool :)

Or Shangri La or Hyatt.

Forgot about the Fullerton bay, their pool is nice. I like the Fullerton for the heritage, but you can use the other hotel's pool.

Does the Hyatt have a nice pool Anna? Never stayed there.

Parkroyal on Pickering. The ambiance and decor with greenery everywhere, were stunning. Great location, one block from both Clarke Quay and Chinatown MRTs, the breakfast buffet was great, good selection of Western and Asian options, short queues too. The pool was open air when I walked past it. Didn't get to use it during my stay :(

Completely agree with defurax - I've stayed at Novotel Clarke Quay 3 times in the past couple of years and have never been disappointed. Large pool, decent buffet breakfast and arguably one of the best spots right on Clarke Quay.

A little different & for the budget minded yet with still a lot of good things ... The Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay ... is 3 mins walk to Clarke Quay (and easy walk to Boat Quay), 5 mins walk to China Town etc.
Rooms are about $170++ and include WiFi and buffet breakfast.
Breakfast is 'limited' i.e scrambled & boiled eggs, sausages, noddles / rice dish, hot porridge / oatmeal, large pastry selection, cereals, yoghurts, coffee / tea / milk, muffins chopped and whole fruits etc. 1 min walk away is 7-eleven, coffee shops etc.

Note: Rooms are small but modern. And you should bring your own shampoo / conditioner if you want fancy stuff vs the pump pack things. Water replaced daily. Wifi was excellent speed at 4 devices allowed $n/c.

Pool is a long large lap pool and 2 x spas on the roof top so gets lots of sun and is nice and warm.

What has surprised us is just how good a $170 hotel can be in Singapore. The location can't be beat. The staff are friendly and the hotel is very young and quiet.

We've stayed there a few times and found it to be great value especially when t is coming out of our own pocket. Each time extended check out to 2pm was offered just by being an entry level member.

So a great hotel for touring. But if I was to camp out in the room, I'd may be consider something bigger like the Regent which can have excellent sale pricing (4-seasons owned) and does a top breakfast buffet. But when we've stayed here the rooms have been $300++ inc b/fast.

This is a budget hotel thought by classification.
