Singapore Airlines - Seating Requests in J

I have not come across this before, so hopefully some of the more experienced SQ fliers can help.

I am flying MEL SIN at 1.05 Monday morning! The bookings has been made by our Corporate TA, and I can see my booking through my Kris Flyer login. However I do no appear to be able to put in a seat request. My TA is telling me that she is not able to pre-select, and the SQ website tells me that "Preferred Seat Selection is available only on Economy class"

I am relatively new SQ Flyer, and will only reach Kris Flyer Silver with these flights, so this may be something quite normal, but I would have thought that as a J Class pax I would have the opportunity for seat request

Might be same story as with BA where you can't preselect J class seats unless you reach a certain FF status. I never had the issue with SQ though...

I booked a couple of SQ J flights earlier this year, and had no problems pre-selecting seats, despite having no status on SQ at all...these were booked on the SQ website, don't know if that makes a difference.

I did SIN-PER in J on a points upgrade a few weeks ago and was able do seat selection online. No SQ status.

Just ring SQ (not your TA) up, and request your seat:idea:...sometimes with 3rd party bookings you can't choose your J seat online.

As KPC had suggested I was intending to ring SQ on this one (and have now done and all sorted), but wanted to be clear in my own mind why my TA could not do this. To be honest I have enough in my day without having to follow up on seating allocation, which to me is a fundamental piece of my airline travel. I want to make sure I am not building a relationship with an airline that does not allow my TA to complete all of my usual requests.

I will achieve Silver within 5 weeks of first flying with them, so I can see that this is a relationship I need to either love...or choose an airline that will offer my TA full transparency of seats etc.

There are a lot of people with great experience in this forum....and so always look to their learnings to make my way a little easier

You can select your seat (any class) if you book online on sq.com

There is an alternative to calling. If you have your PNR (?Amadeus), then go to the lufthansa website, and entering your PNR will pull up your flight details, and you can then select your seat. I do not know whether this works for economy class.

I had bookings on SQ.com on J before (awards) and I could select seat online. I suggest you call up their call centre (usually pretty good, and not long waiting time unless peak hour in SIN) to select seat.

Did your TA have your Krisflyer number in the booking?

Another thing I have found with SQ is that all of the J seats are pretty good but if you don't get where you want, do check back on-line periodically before your flight to see if your preferred seat does open up. I've used this method to line up my seats on 4 legs of travel so that I will be where I want to be.
