For all you SIA flyers out there. Maybe more opportunities to fly an A380

From The Australian the important bits
SINGAPORE Airlines plans to add Airbus A380 services on Australian routes to boost capacity and take advantage of rising business traffic.
SIA is due to get four more A380s this financial year and Mr Menon said the airline was "doing our sums" to ensure the Australian recovery was sustained before boosting capacity.
While the airline was not looking at increasing frequency or adding new destinations from Australia and New Zealand, there would probably be more A380s on Australian routes. "So as the A380s come in, the 747s are decommissioned and 777s are either leased or sold off , you'll find the new A380s taking on some of the existing frequencies," he said.

Might be good for more award flights on an A380 and some cheaper economy seats:)

Are there enough gates for that many A380’s operating in Australia though ;) Might need to build some more.

I'm sure BNE could take another one (say if SQ replace one of their BNE services with 388, then it doesn't even need to consider conflicts with the EK 388s).

If SYD needs to build another gate to support another 388, then pigs might as well fly (and the people of Mascot know where they can go).

MEL might have some extra space. I think their new pier has a couple of 388 capable gates; that could suffice.

ADL is supposed to be able to support a 388. I can't exactly see how that works (unless you use two sets of aerobridges and board from both left and right sides).

SQ could run an A380 on every service they have to Australia and we would not have a capacity problem at any airport!

MEL has 9 & 11
SYD has 5 gates
BNE has 2 gates
ADL has 1 gate (Gate 18 - OzFest'ers might see the A380 markings on that bay )

Perth would need to service the flights from a standoff bay.

Personally I'd rather see more flights a day to choose from than the same/less flights but with bigger aircraft.

With the three flights our of BNE spaced regularly through out the day it is a good service but I feel that the afternoon flight could be A380 to support the overnight traffic to Europe which has good connections.

That would be tremendous  Long walk up the stairs to get to the top floor.

If they needed more capacity in PER, I would have thought they'd just put more A330's on.

Yep, I can confirm this. It always gives me a chuckle to think of an A380 pulled up at ADL airport.

When QF were doing trials, they never even connected to the airport. They just waited on the apron to let brakes cool before take-off.

Actually Melbourne has 5 gates now according to the latest apron chart, and Adelaide has had is a380 park moved to gate 86 at Terminal 2!

It definitely makes me chuckle and wish I could see it. After all, ADL is a small-as airport and the largest aircraft that services it is probably the A330-300 (not sure what equipment MH and SQ use for ADL services, possibly MH have a 777-300/-200 LR/ER series).

There are only 3 gates in the international section AFAIK/IIRC, which are selectively cordoned off from the rest of the terminal using sliding glass walls. An A380 parked at ADL would effectively occupy the entire international section of apron.

Then there is the humour in seeing a photo of a huge 388 Bloatbus next to an array of much smaller B737s and A322s.

MH use 772's for their KUL-ADL vv.

AFAIK, MH use 772's to KUL from each AU port they service apart from SYD, where they use a mix of 772's and 747's.

(I forgot about the A330's they use to and fro PER on their MH126/127 service)
