Hi,

Seems its really difficult to get MEL-SIN tickets next week, Even via HKG on this end or SYD, can get back via PER for not a lot of $. Spend most of the day in the QF lounge ;)
Traveling Y,
Depart SIN around 26/27th, Return about 1st July.

Oneworld is the preference, any ideas ?
HKG,BKK,etc are all ok to route via. Just after a cheap fare, but no problems with WT+ etc if the price is decent.

Maybe i could do a circle fare or something ?

E

CircleAsia requires two stopovers outside country of origin and you have to go to a three areas (NE Asia, SE Asia and SWP)

Might not make it that cheap. How cheap is cheap? I assume you have checked the ITA planner and expertflyer?

Circle asia also required booking atleast 7 days in advance of first international departure.

I have checked EF but not the ITA planner, thats a good idea.

Cheap is relative the the class traveled ;) I am happy to travel Y for this, its my own money. But also looked at options like JQ out of BKK but thats BKK-MEL costing almost $2000 AUD !! ouch, BA WT+ would be great, but no return flights, not even in Y ! full for days.
Looked on EF, almost every flight to HKG & SIN from SYD or MEL is Y=0 for the end june / begining july.

School holiday start at around end of next week and many overseas students from asia are heading home for a fortnight or so. Also, indeed, Oz Holiday makers are heading out as well.

Certainly direct flights are coming in at $7100 for QF ; ITA gives options via PER from SGD1138 (watch out for the JQ Codeshare from PER to AVV).

Yeah I had a hard time getting 2xAward flights out of Mel from the 24th June returning around the 5th/6th of July.. Basically because its around the school holiday period.

We had to call Qantas Premium and get them to request seats and do the booking for us.

In the end we managed to get MEL-SYD, SYD-SIN (BA WT+) and return SIN-PER, PER-MEL. Which suited us fine as I have a pregnant wife who needs to stretch her legs out a bit more often than normal.

JohnK, No looking hard enough, just wanting direct, via SYD or BA WT+
Pity its next to impossible to get the BA web booking to fly WT+ in to AU and QF codeshare via PER on the way back or something like that.

Still 1400 $SG is not a great fare, i should have booked more of the $SG 800-900 specials i saw earlier in the year.

Funny how you forget school holidays when your not longer in school or have children.

Thanks guys,
E

That must have been very early in the year. I have been monitoring airfares for around 2 months now and SIN-SYD-SIN direct is just over SG$1200. If routing via PER incoming and ADL outgoing then price drops to just below SG$1100. There has not been a significant change in the airfares since I have started looking. QF is really pushing the connections via PER and ADL!

Yep, around march/arpil time. I was here in SIN at the time, thinking, great cheap flights ! and you could visit 2 AU cities, ie SYD and MEL for example.

Anyway thats life, i still think the fact you can get WT+ for similar to QF Y its a good deal on BA.

In case anybody was wondering...

Rang QF today for the flight tomorrow night i wanted to take, asked about BA WT+, paid a little more SG$1460 and am flying WT+ on the one leg thats available SIN-SYD. That includes booking fee's for phone booking.

So its looks like ...

SIN-SYD-MEL BA15 & QF417 (26th June)
MEL-PER-SIN QF485 & QF71 (1st July)

So WT+ for SIN-SYD ended up being an extra $250 or so on the best price flying all Y. May request some points upgrades for the MEL-PER (743) & PER-SIN (A333) legs.

And just for comparison purposes the cheapest Y fare MEL-SIN-MEL (via PER,BNE etc) was $AUD 1577, so my trip is almost 30% cheaper (inc one WT+ segment), than from SIN, that that this should supprise anybody here.

Dont forget to take the time and allocate your seats on the BA website, if you are lucky enough to get the front row then be prepared to fight for it onboard with fools who think they have a right to move themselves to your seat by virtue of being one of the first people onboard.

Travelled last week with BA via Syd and had 100% success rate with people already sitting in 21J, in the case of the flight ex Singapore on Saturday night I had the pleasure of being called a rude c**t for asking the flight crew to move the person to their correct seat - 22e, nice! It was not my fault I took the time to preallocate my seat and my status meant I got 21J!

I wont have that problem now, just got Op-Up'ed :) very nice indeed.
My first time is BA J

Just hope you are not too tall.

So i have heard, 185cms, a little over 6ft. Still has to be better even now as a bed as WT+ see how we go. Wonder if i will earn J SC's, May make WP this year if i do a quick status run in the next few weeks, never thought i would even get close flying discount Y.

Evan,

I'm 6ft 1in and find I have to sleep on my back with knees up a little.

As you say it's a bed so therefore better than a seat so it's OK by me. The newer version solves this problem and a few others from what I've seen and read.

Yep, if your tall its not so great, but still slept, and i really found it a comfortable seat. I was on a B777-200 version if it makes much difference, also to note the last rearward facing at back of cabin and first row forward facing front of cabin have some extra length. (I was at front).

I actually prefer the QF skybed in some ways, but since nearly all my flying is Y (And i will pay WT+ when i can get it) then any J seat is great ! :)
Now if only my upgrade comes through on my MEL-PER-SIN next week... somehow i oubt it, looking busy (All flights via SYD,MEL to SIN,HKG sold out already)
