Hi All

Sitting amongst a few hundred other people in the T3 Silverkris lounge the other night reaffirmed for me that I actually prefer (apart from the lack of bathroom facilities) to frequent the Krisflyer Gold lounge.

For me it's a bit like flying in an A330 vs an A380, while the big bird has more bells and whistles, everything is so much easier in the baby brother.

For a start, the Gold lounge is quieter, basically no queue for food/drinks, has the landing overlooking the terminal so you don't feel closed in and can even tell what time of day it is.

I just don't see how the Silverkris lounge is a compelling story as a premium offering.

I've been to many a lounge throughout the world including some very good and very bad examples from OW, *A, ST and the many contracted providers.

For me, SQ is my favourite carrier, but I just can't come to love their crown jewel on the ground.

Does anyone else agree?

I haven't been to the Gold lounge but was sitting in Silver Kris on Thurs night for a few hours. Wow it really filled up around 10 pm and i saw a lot of people trying to find a seat.

I've been to the SilverKris lounge in T3 a lot and never had any problems with overcrowding. I was there again on Saturday evening for a good 4 hours and enjoyed it immensely as usual. I've never been into the KrisFlyer Gold lounge, but based on peeking in on the way past it doesn't look great. That said, if I couldn't get a seat in the SilverKris lounge I'd give it a go.

Hi Peakhour, some good points but the food and drink options in the gold lounge are very limited in my opinion. Once upon a time they used to have Cognac which seems to have dissappeared and the Tiger draft tap often runs out...

Both lounges fill up from 9pm ish when the long haul flights east and west start to have people checking in, noticeably worse on the weekend.

The Krisflyer Gold lounge is a dog of a lounge and an outright embarrassment to SQ.

Every time I've stuck my head in there it was overcrowded and the food offering was quite frankly trash.

No toilets, often hot and stuffy, terrible layout. For a home port, I don't see how they can excuse it. I have nothing good to say about it.

Yes some interesting observations - views ranging from OP's view that Gold Lounge has advantages over SKL to opposing views that Gold Lounge is a dog.

I would never go that far as I have been to many lounges in China / Phils / Indo etc where best you could say about them is that entry is restricted. YES there are no internal toilets - bet there is an external toilet abt 5mtrs from the GL door. YES showers are sadly missing - but I have gotten around this in past by utilising PP and Ambassador Lounge at other end of mezzanine - not perfect but at least I could get a shower. F & B offerings in GL definitely not up to SKL - but let's face it how many inter J Lounges are?

I have over the years spent many hours in GL's in SIN - more often in T2 where they did have showers - can anybody confirm if they still do? This might be an alt option. But TBH I would still gladly tolerate GL if that is my best or only option.

According to some on FT (I have no experience), catering in GL has been upgraded recently. I am not sure if that is true or not. I generally use the SKL's when they aren't very busy, and find them more than adequate. One thought - if travelling out of a B gate (or an A gate with plenty of time on your hands), during a period when the SKL in T3 is very busy (after 10pm), it may be worth considering using the SKL in T2, which tends to be much quieter at that time of night, and it is not too far from T2 terminus of the Skytrain that travels from the B gate end of T3.

I guess everyone has differences in opinions about the SQ lounge offerings in SIN.
Of the 100+ times I've frequented SQ SIN, I much prefer the spacious SKL in T3.
For me the showers are a major benefit & I prefer the F&B options in the SKL.
I have never known it to be overly crowded unlike the GL which at times is very busy with people lingering around the average fodder & also find it too dark & windowless.
Though notably as others mentioned I surely have also experienced much lesser hard & soft product lounges in other terminals throughout the globe.

Interesting feedback from you all. I knew when posting I would be in a select minority, but I was just interested to hear your thoughts.

Of course the food selection is larger in SKL, and there are showers and amenity kits.

The toilets you have to walk to, and probably further than you have to walk from GL to the public toilet depending on where in SKL you sit, given you rarely get much of a choice as to where you sit.

We all have our own ideas of what is most important and that is the fun of this site, I love learning from you all.

For me I do love a transit shower, but if it's only short hop to Singapore ex Asia, likely I had a shower before leaving the hotel.

So next most important for me, is a clean, functional and quiet space to relax and do my own thing be it sleep, eat, drink, email, skype calls or whatever.

So when I compare SKL to KFGL they are both clean and functional, but I cannot imagine trying to grab 40 winks sitting in the SKL, but that's just me!

Whereas I have often found a seat towards the back "outside" in KFGL and had a quick nap with my alarm set.

Anyway, as one of the above posts mentions, *any* lounge in Changi is going to be a whole lot nicer than many of the lounges in Asia, especially regional China, India that I've had the displeasure of attending over the years.

Good problems to have!

Interesting points of view.

I will be going through SIN on SQ in business class in a couple of weeks on a departure just after midnight.

Last time I was there a couple of years ago the lounge was overflowing as there were another 2-3 flights to Europe at the same time.

Haven't been to the KFG lounge for as long as I can remember now but this thread is compelling me to check it out.

What kind of beverage options do they have there these days? The same champagne, alcohol & TWG options as the SKL?

Must admit I have not been either GL in T2 or T3 for years - i do intend to do a recon on June 17 and get some pics unless someone else has the time and inclination to beat me to it.

Dream on..
Tiger Draft on tap. low quality Argentine red & white wine, a few spirits, IIRC nil TWG options & limited selections of mostly unappetising* food options.
The cold fruit juices are a nice selection on majority of my visits to the KGL :D
*My trial sampling & observed response.

lol! way to destroy my dreams of checking out a (almost) new lounge!

I should point out that the KFGL in T3 is the nice one, whereas the one in T2 is brown and devoid of natural light...Of course I tend to spend more time in the not so nice one...

Thanks for the replies.

Surely there is other lounges *A gold can go to? I mostly fly J through SIN so not sure but last week did see a sign for TG Orchid lounge in T2... I think.

There is a TG lounge in T1, but it isn't open all day.

I haven't been, but I wouldn't think it would be fantastic.

Of the lounges I've been to in Changi, which is nearly all of them except the KF GL's, and a couple of the paid lounges, it would be the worst, at least in terms of catering and (lack of) light/airiness.
