Silverkris Lounge Changi vs Krisflyer Gold Lounge

Of the lounges I've been to in Changi, which is nearly all of them except the KF GL's, and a couple of the paid lounges, it would be the worst, at least in terms of catering and (lack of) light/airiness.

Sort of what I expected knowing what TG's own lounges are like in BKK.

Of course... SIN is probably the best airport to transit in without lounge access.

YES you can have a ball in SIN. $10 or so will get you a shower - plenty bars - you can swim in the pool - did I mention bars - breakfast at Hard Rock Café in T3 is best available in Changi IMHO - and try their ribs if you want a decent dinner - washed down with their Margaritas - then go find a bar - plenty there. Hand your Changi $s over to the missus and send her off to Charles & Keith - god I could spend all day in SIN without a care.

Harri's bar is a nice option as well.. Cold treats & pleasant music :)

I was in SIN T3 last night but was too tired and depressed to go lounge hopping.

The SilverKris lounge as usual was quite full although that is a little misleading as people like to take up more space than they need.

Cannot complain about the food on offer though. Pork, beef and chicken dishes just the way they should be and not tainted with curry, chilli or satay.

The lounge is quite boring with just one big open space. Sometimes I just like to go and hide and the 30 or so desktops were the perfect hiding spot as only a few people were using them.

Seems everyone agrees both lounges have some issues and space is one of them. I was in the Bridge lounge in Honkers two weekends ago and it was very good in that lots of food and beverage choices, space and accommodates first, business and frequent flyers. SIA might be better to rethink their lounge designs to go with this kind of design where multiple lounges are spread around the terminal and the offering is consistent amongst them all.

They might even get some benefits of scale with reduced variations in food and drink offering and being able to close some spaces at off peak times.

I did a lounge recon on night Jun 17 in SIN arr at 21:00 - dep 00:30 - inspected all SIS lounges in T2 and T3 - here are my observations:

TPE - Yes lets start here - quiet on arr - quiet whole time - lounge quality perfect as norm - serving VCLGD - gotta love that.

T3 SKL F- few pax - tons of eats - usual great F & B offerings - didn't check Champers on offer

T3 SKL J - only half full - tons of seats - showers not fully occupied - great selection of F & B as usual - Bolly on offer

T3 SIA Gold Lounge - plenty seats available - I would say half full - good food selection but drink selection here appeared quite limited.

T2 SKL F - virtually empty - identical offerings as T3 but no pax.

T2 SKL J - virtually empty - identical offerings as T3 but no pax.

T2 SIA Gold Lounge - virtually empty - identical offerings as T3 but no pax - in fact better drinks offerings here - but ALL 3 lounges in T2
EMPTY.

Now good people I know SIAGL is not up to SKL - no showers or toilets in lounge is a real bummer - but from what I saw the other night plenty space and food offerings good - drinks in T3 a bit bare but T2 fine - was that timing? Who knows.

Now in T2 when you go up escalator from chocolate shop to lunges - over on your far right is SATS Premier Lounge:

Premier Lounge.JPG

Before lounge upgrades in T2 this was the SIA Gold Lounge and indeed it has showers in it - but new SIAGL does not - clearly this was significant mistake by SIA. If it helps if you flying Scoot you can get a shower in Premier Lounge.

I was chatting to girls at desk SIAGL in T3 for like 10 mins discussing all things lounge - they were fully aware of pax being so disappointed no shower - whilst I was chatting I saw continual stream of SQ pax trying to get in here with SQ J BPs - unbelievable. Clearly they came from B gates up escalator new Ambass Lounge then wandered along mezzanine.

Hope this helps

Thanks Cruiser Elite

From my experience (well, apart from the Flounge as I haven't been there!) I'd agree with your summary. If only they had the showers in the SIA Gold Lounge...

Cheers

From memory the 2 lounges are opposite one another. Couldn't you have a shower in SilverKris lounge and then adjourn to Gold lounge?

Yes, if you are that status (or VA Gold or Plat), if desperate for a shower it will cost a wander down to the Ambassador lounge and about $7.50 AUD.

Or $13.91 SGD fee to use the pool, jacuzzi and shower :)

The KF Gold T3 lounge is certainly an 'all expense spared' affair. SQ really must want you to fly in their premium classes. For their home airport lounge, it is a pretty poor effort. No toilets I think has to be a deal breaker for me...

Also, I could not even get a boarding pass reprint (after changing FF crediting) and had to go down to the transfer desk. A simple service like this and they send you away to battle with the masses.

The 3K versus SQ decision for PER-SIN flying gets a little harder, as the QF lounge at SIN is certainly superior in every respect.

SilverKris Lounge T3 for me. Lots of food, lots of space. Whenever I get there it is never that full.

Changi is definitely one of my favourite airports (esp T3), neck to neck with HKG for me. You really wish SYD would be something similar ....

I wondered if anyone else does that? It's been one of my routines on evening transits for a while now!

That's my plan in 2 weeks..PP it to either dnata or ambass lounge for a shower and a nap before an early morning flight to HKG

In my experiences the T3 SKL has always been a ghost town during the morning. I normally arrive at about lunchtime and have all afternoon to kill in there, it does start to fill up in the evening as the transfers arrive ready for the AU evening flights. But of course by that time I'm also 'filled up' so normally feel like departing and having a walk around the terminal.

Nice job on everybody giving the updates on the gold lounge, I've never been and all 'reports' on it i have read on the internet rate it poorly etc but they are all about 2-3 years old so it has improved since then? I will be checking it out around December for sure.

My opinion of T2 is dismal, a horrible hot smelly crowded terminal. I prefer the openness and freshness of T3. Even when arriving and departing from T2, i will hop the train to T3 to walk around/eat/shop before returning back to T2. I find the renovations have improved it slightly..but just the low ceiling in the main drag being crowded with people during the lunchtime rush makes me feel gross . Similar experience one time after enjoying the T3 SKL, i decided to go and check-out the T2 one, it was PACKED!! but not enough time to transfer back to T3 to the solitude, never mind. At least I know now.

If youre flying on SQ stock and transiting under 24 hours you can also use your Changi Dollars for the Ambassador lounge - its been renovated recently I think and is much much nicer than the KF Gold lounge which remains a dump - dirty uncleared glasses and crockery, 1 broken pc and no printer, gross looking food and minimal drink selection

dnata lounge remains far superior

You can obtain the Changi dollar vouchers if you are in transit through Singapore. To claim the vouchers just go to the iShopChangi Collection Centres which are next to the GST refund counters. These are pretty central so opposite where people come through from immigration in T3 IIRC.
