Should my wife join QFF too ?

Apologies if the answer is already available on AFF but couldn't get the answer with a quick search, and I know someone here will have all the pros/cons on the tip of their finger. (I'm hoping members won't judge me too harshly if I appear to be just too lazy to work it out for myself.........LOL)

Is it worth my wife joining QFF (and other loyalty programs)? I have been a QFF member for many years and fly solo a bit but my wife only ever travels with me (only reason being that she only flies when we holiday together). Mainly interested to know if there are tangible benefits in her accumulating SC's in her own name. We fly J.

The biggest thing that immediately comes to mind is the points she will accumulate in her own right. She can then transfer them to you (up to 100,000) once PA.

Points are always good.

Even if she never accumulated enough SC’s to reach a particular level, it’s the points you should be focused on here. With her earning for the flights she takes as well, there’ll be more points in the bank when you’re looking at that upgrade to First

At the very least she can transfer any QFF points she earns when flying with you to your account (once per year, min 5000, max 100000).

I concur. Even if the only points she will accumulate are from flights, it's still points for free. You can always sweep them to your own account when there are sufficient.

We're about to start taking our daughter abroad, so even she has her own account now.

If you were only 200 points short of an upgrade they wont give it to you. Every point counts. Points plus pay aside.

It's like the old adage "ever been 5 cents short of a bus fare? Did they let you on?". Although in this day and age they probably would, and 5c is basically of no value.

There are laos mnay ways to not have to pay for a QFF account. EDR as one example.

I joined my less then 2 year old in Feb by one of the TV shows (I think it was the today show) even though I rang QFF and they said I could not get a card for a child under 2. I then recently received this email:
"To welcome you, Qantas is offering you the chance to earn up to 3,500 extra Qantas Frequent Flyer points[SUP]*[/SUP].
Simply book and fly with Qantas (that is with a QF flight number on your ticket, except where operated by Jetstar) in any class of travel within three months of joining the program and you will earn a bonus 2,500 points on your first international flight and a bonus 1,000 points on your first domestic flight[SUP]*[/SUP]. And that's in addition to the usual points you are entitled to earn for eligible Qantas travel[SUP]^[/SUP].

Annoyed our international flight isn't until August but will be doing a domestic flight to get the points. Then once a year transfering the point to my account.

So yes - get the membership for free and earn those points

Mrs Lime joined early last year, now has silver status, had 50K points and transferred them to me, then with mine I purchased 2 x J to USA recently.

After USA she will be SG and me Plat.

Mrs Lime has Amex gets 1.5 points per $1 spent, uses it at PO, Woollies, Bunnings, BP etc.

I fly more than my wife but she has managed to accumulate 30k in points very quickly. Gotta love the qff amex and shopping at woolies..lol

One advantage of everyday rewards is if your wife doesn't fly frequently, then it's easier to keep her points active and not expiring after 18 months of inactivity.
