Should JQi/d pax have F lounge access?

A contentious subject that has been discussed in many threads but not in one of its own - that I could see.

Should a domestic JetStar passenger travelling from the international terminal have access to the F lounge?

For the sake of completeness, I figure most would support access if the pax is leaving the country - i.e. not on a tag flight.

I would suggest that access should be permitted. My first exposure to the lounge was on a day trip with fellow AFFers as a PS. I saw what was available and was WP 3 months later, and have been ever since. I guess i have used the lounge on a day trip 5-6 times, max. So QF have received a large amount of revenue from me for the privilege. It is not about a cheap JQ flight getting access, but a very frequent flyer using their benefit.

Yes. I am all for it.

Even if I buy a cheap Jetstar deal from SYD to MEL to use the FLounge, I am still paying to fly Qantas to SYD and then Qantas from MEL to BNE to get home.

Edit: Not to mention the thousands of dollars in unnecessary travel to maintain WP

Indeed, I don't think the mass group outings do anything for the argument that access should be permitted.

I'm not sure I can reply to this in good conscience. But my feelings about mass group outings are extremely negative when they do turn into an all you can eat buffet. It is hard to consider such in any positive way.

Overall, I'm in the 'no easy answer' camp. Perhaps Qantas should cut off guest rights for JQi/d pax due to crowding if they get wind of such outings?

Not on the $9 fare matches to Tiger where the whole idea of the trip is to taunt Qantas with detailed trip reports on frequent flyer websites.

The rest going about their business should have access.

I actually remember being told that I'd have to move to the business lounge, when I flew 3K BKK-SIN return several years back (Y), if the lounge got crowded. I was WP at the time and thought it was a rather rude comment - QF doesn't fly that route, and I could have chosen CX.

At the time, I was spending upwards of $150k+ a year on flights with QF and only flew other carriers when they didn't service the route. If they start excluding based on the carrier you're flying, does that mean anyone flying one of the other OW carriers will be excluded as well? Could be the start of a very slippery slope indeed.

"Pigs in a trough" is *never* a pretty sight, and I've seen it in more lounges than I care to remember, however I can honestly say, I couldn't distinguish between QFi and JQi passengers.

If it means that said passengers get a taste for what QFi can offer, more money in the QF coffers, and as others have said, lots of pointless flying just to be able to use it.:mrgreen: (QF is happy either way I'm sure.)

BKK-Sin doesn't apply to my comments. Try SYD-MEL. You said *pigs in the tough not me. Given JQ refuses to pay for pax access to QF lounges, the situation I'm thinking about costs much money.

It's an excellent question - one of course with no purely simple answers.....

Medhead - you forget that to have access to the Lounge in the first place requires WP access. Which you can't earn by flying JQ (unless you donate extra $$ to receive 10 SCs).

So those there have already invested significant $$$ and flying to achieve the necessary access rights.

All jokes aside JohnK - even on $9 TT price match - QF made over $1000 out of me in additional positioning & return flights on QF aircraft to attend said social event.

There is a significant argument to make that many folks who have attended social events in the F lounge have liked it, and have gone on to invest in QF to achieve access in their own right. QF themselves are well aware of the marketing appeal of the F lounge which is why they regularly host VIP tours and visits to the lounge.

There are a few issues:

1/ Cost - as Medhead said - JQ don't pay for lounge access. Not my problem - this is the bigger issue between JQ/QF (see below). However - QF doesn't completely lose (see above).d
2/ Pigs in the trough - regardless of flying JQ/QF or OW, I have seen appalling behaviour by folks in the lounge before (both QF F and other lounges). There is no excuse for poor behaviour whether you are in a group of 1 or 20. That said - if you are in a larger group (organised or not), (flying JQ or otherwise) it is incumbent on you to behave in a manner that does not negatively impact on others' lounge experience. It's called common courtesy, which is sadly lacking in today's society.

I wasn't at the most recent lounge event - but others who were - have made comments to me that it may have been a little "out-of-hand". I wasn't there, didn't see, can't pass judgement. But the point remains - I don't care who is in the lounge, as long as they behave with decorum.

3/ Spa - I don't know what Fiona's comments were - perhaps someone could link them.... I'm gonna guess the spa was full.
This is a different issue - and I have to admit that I have encountered this myself. But it's only an argument if the spa is adequately staffed too.
There are plenty of treatment rooms in SYD and so many times when I have been there - only 1 has ever been in use with only 1 therapist on duty. Of course you will miss out.
I doubt too many JQ pax (on average across a given week) are taking your spots.

4/ IMHO - JQ should not grant access to any lounge. Nor should they carry any QF codes, nor use any QF facilities or terminals except at the same commercial rate that QF would charge UA or NZ or VA. IMO the umbilical cord should be broken and JQ should survive on it's own feet.

5/ The rules are the rules are the rules. Whilst you are allowed access - go for it. If you don't like it - perhaps we should ban EK pax from the lounge. They add nothing to the decorum IMHO. Nor do the CX pax, or the BA pax, or the MH pax. Actually - I think everyone except for me should be banned - in true AFF spirit.

If it wasn't for guest access, many of us would have never experienced the lounge. It was one of the carrots for me to attain WP.

I suggested such restriction in a specific situation. I don't think that situation necessarily applied to your guest appearance.

Mmmm. I had forgotten about the spa treatments as I'm not often there for long enough to use them. So, no strain on the system from me there.

I do see the "pigs at the trough" in the J lounges a lot, but as I've always eaten in the restaurant in the Flounges , I've not even been aware of what others are getting up too.

I never have a drink in the Y/J lounges other than coffee. Again, I'm no pressure on the costs there. Swings and roundabouts!

I think Qantas are still way ahead in dollar terms from me visiting the Flounge occasionally on a Jetstar SYD to MEL Flight. I don't use it as an opportunity to be greedy

Easy to go beyond WP with J* ... Racked up WP+PG 3 years in a row flying out of MCY.

Yeah I don't see the point of it. Will create unnecessary attention. I don't want to lose my occasional pig trough access.

Meanwhile JohnK likes loitering outside lounge entrances and randomly guesting strangers in but hates for paid pax with EARNT WP status to get in legitimately (a price beat is legitimate)...

My guesting was as a pax on JQi domestic leg MEL-SYD-MEL. A publicised AFF event. Which, I might add that on reflection and as I have stated above, I now believe are counter productive to the access for dom pax argument. Discretion and small numbers preferable.
