Hi All,

Currently I am 155 SC shy of Gold for the year. My earn period expires End June. I'm also QC member right now, that also expires end June.

I'm based in PER, is it worth it to go for Gold or just stay Silver and get QC again if needed? I tend to travel PER-MEL 4-5 times a year and 1-2 trips to the US.

Any help and/or ideas to get the SC as easily/cheaply as possible would be greatly appreciated.

Jason

Hi Jason,

155 is only a rtn J PER-MEL trip so certainly worth it IMO. You'll get better seating and more miles on the US trips.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you have spare points look at doing JASA.....this should keep more cash in your sky rocket.

Just had a look, I have enough points to do that. Silly question, but I still get all the SC yes? So 160 regardless whether I pay or use points?

Seems a lot easier than I thought it'd be, thanks for both your and nlagelle's advise and expertise :)

As long as you book an Any Seat Award not a classic. ASA's earn SC's classic does not. Book at the right time and you can get a JASA at near classic levels.

Thanks very much :) I shall remember that, much appreciated.

Have a good look at the thread on JASA. If you are looking to book international they can take a fair bit of time to secure a decent point rate....the points required can range from say 60,000 to 900,000 for the same ticket. Keep looking as the cheap ones do exists......I didn't believe they did until I joined AFF:cool:

If you have plenty of points but not much time they are a good way to jump or retain status tier.

FWIW, I always burn points on Int flights as I believe they provide the best return on the points however, if I needed too I would book a Dom JASA.

I am late to the party but I say go for it :) I have 80 SC left to get gold, and am fixing that by doing 2x BNE-MKY via Rockhampton return runs. Of course I sort of forgot about another 30 SC worth of flights I had booked for other things (oops). But it's all good for points and extra SC for lifetime status, right? Right??

How much is a PER-MEL return in business? Interesting that you would place that much value on Gold status considering that you only be doing 5-7 trips per year.

PER-MEL is about $3100 return in J. Might be plus or minus a hundred or so depending on the day. Its pretty rich frankly and you are very likely to get a 767 depending on day/time, so watch out if you go in that direction.

I wouldn't break my back getting QF Gold any more, not unless I intended to do some international on OneWorld.

If I were to actually pay for J I'd probably just miss out and be fine with that. I like the Lounge Access, especially when O/S. I go to the US once or twice a year and just the ability to shower is priceless.

Doing this one JASA will enable me to get Gold and then not need to fork out for QC. I guess I like that little bit of luxury at times.
