Should I get an Ipad?

Simple answer - no.

More complex answer - no but I don't think you can undersell the benefit of the larger screen. Lots of games run on both the iPhone and the iPad but I would rather play them on the iPad (though Infinity on the train with frantic swiping of the screen makes you look a little strange). Having watched TV shows on the iPod touch I would rather watch them on the iPad. I could read and edit documents on the iPhone but it is dramatically easier on the iPad.

Ok cool.

Cheers for the appraisal.

Gives me some food for thought as they say.

I wouldn't be without my iPad now - I would be more inclined to move to a less featured phone as there are days when I all I do on the phone is make calls/sms and for that I don't need an iPhone but I do listen to music and check AFF so it is unlikely that I will lose the iPhone (also when Overseas I then only need to get one sim for the iPhone and tether the iPad).

Depending on flexibility in my next role and the degree of travel I will be looking to use my iPad as a travel computer and stick to a desk top in the office subject to the needs/ability to work from home which would then necessitate a laptop.

I agree, AFF is so much better on the iPad, I hate when all I have is my phone to use, although music is a different matter. I also enjoy the 3G capability when travelling, it makes a quick email grab very easy while in transit.

I use 3G - I have a 45 minute train ride each day and a god portion of that can be surfing the web.

Also thinking more tactically, knowing when I travel to the UK I can easily get a sim for the iPad it is easier than finding wifi sometimes.

On my iPad 1 I am thinking of cutting off the service ($15/month) as I rarely use it outside of the house.

This thread should be titled 'Should my wife buy me an iPad for Christmas' so I could show it to her.

Agree totally. And relevant parts printed up and placed where the Mrs will never find it, like our wallets.

I'd be lost without my iPad now. I use it for AFF, for movies and TV shows, and can access work through Citrix.

I have sims for the US, Brazil, UK and Australia. The need to use iTunes was a bit annoying at first, but I have just got used to using it.

We both have IPAD 2 and we find the screen to be very suitable for over fifties as our eyesight declines.
Both of ours are 3G and Wifi and so there is no fighting for the one unit.
Straitman suggest you leave IPAD adverts around the house.....if that doesn't work for Christmas be brave and get yourself one straight after Christmas day.

Personally I use the app and Safari. You can't like things in the app or do multi quotes.

True but I almost prefer the app on my IPhone to the full site on my computer.

Easier to read/remove unread threads/participated threads on the app IMO

I do wonder why people feel the need to always tell me how their [insert name of other device] is better than the iPad/iPhone. It just happened again - as soon as I got out the iPad/iPhone to update my dive log the lectures about how other devices are better/cheaper/faster - at no pint did I instigate a Apple products are better than ... comment...

IMO if you are going to purchase a tablet.

Don't buy the one that can run on the mobile network.

If you have a phone that has wi fi hot spot just use that.

If you don't but you have a wireless data plan just upgrade your modem to a wi fi modem and all is good...

Just my opinion...

Simo

Surfing the net (& AFF:)) on my new iPad 2 from the executive lounge at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai...I'm starting to see what the fuss is all about! (we would have gone out but it is about 0 degrees C outside ATM)

I am a huge sucker for marketing and presentation, formerly it was anything Sony in the 90's and how they kept me locked in with the Memory Stick Duo's. Then people started to rebel by saying why couldn't they add a SD card slot feature?! And history is history, and Sony now releases more of the cameras/phones/laptops with MSD, SD, et al.

Then come the 2000's and it was i-Anything by Apple.... having now owned most i-Gimmick things released by Apple purely because I loved the look of it regardless of the features! No USB? Hello, that's just to lock me in right?! However now I am proud to say I am no longer an Apple fanboi! They have leeched enough $$ from me, so I am spreading my love and moving all my things to Samsung where countless of reviews (google them) and you will see the Samsung Tab poops all over the iPad2's :)

Given the HCA has knocked by Apple's injunction motion, the Tab 10.1 will be for sale soon and guess what will be under my tree this year replacing my ageing iPad1. Yes the iPad is good, but the Tab 10.1's are much better.

Also after playing with a Samsung Galaxy S2 for the last few days, I am going to get that too once my iPhone breaks ..... and yes, I'm expediting iPhone breakage by removing the hard-shell shock resistant case :)

I actually like my iPad a lot.

Defo not an Apple Fanboi. I have blackberry phone after dumping iPhone 4 due to poor reception and drop-outs.

I use mine for books, music and movies mostly.

It's versatile enough that I don't always need to take a laptop with me.

I'd consider another brand of tablet if it was easy to transfer things and to use.

I only use my Ipad when I go on a day trip and just need quick access to information.

I find it handy when I am visiting clients and they ask me a question and I can find the information on the web site quickly.

I have an Blackberry Bold 9780 but I have had the last 3 models of I phones and a Motorola Atrix and always go back to my Blackberry.

I might buy myself a Playbook...

I have exactly the same BB as you and also returned to Blackberry after iPhones 1,2,3 and 4.

I like the ease of use apple products offer but when it comes to phones for me I prefer the battery life and the email better on Blackberry. +1 has iPhone 4 and MacBook pro but doesn't like the iPad.
