Short Notice Upgrade Options

So I arrive at work this morning with the usual Monday-itis and the boss says I’m needed in Darwin urgently, so now flying QF846 out of Sydney (I’m in Newcastle but this was the best option).

It’s booked in full Y but as I’m within 24 hours I can’t request an upgrade. I know I can register at the club but is there any way to do this in advance? Via phone etc? Can another airport do it? (I work near Newcastle airport).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Currently showing J2 only. Have you tried calling QF?

I'd get on the phone straight away.

It's probably under airport control so prob nada QF can do over the phone, but perhaps at Newcastle they could (i unless it's JQ only?) or else yeah, at SYD unfortunately.

It seems too easy - I called QF and they put the request in - and it's now showing on manage my booking as requested. I guess I'll find out when I get to the lounge - I might get there early just in case.

We have QantasLink - but both QF & JQ use contractors at NTL, Aerocare, who wear the respective uniforms. I have been checked in on JQ by a member wearing QF and vice versa - they're all the same people. But they do have access to the respective systems, I think it would have been a long bow to ask them about upgrades, since neither QF or JQ offer J out of NTL. I'm home now anyway and will head to Sydney in an hour or so.

Turns out that was a complete waste of time. The lounge staff had no record of an upgrade request. I’m guessing once the automated process is complete, any subsequent changes to the reservation system regarding upgrades are meaningless.

The lounge staff are hopeful that someone won’t check in, but I’m sceptical.

Ye of little faith - upgraded, 1C. Moved to the business lounge (good thing as there was literally nothing to eat in the QP other than sandwich stuff).

4:40 flight for 10K points, very good value. I’ll be having a few G&Ts on this flight!
