Ive no interest in this other than I recently paid MYR$5500 for a formal dress for YR12 daughter hand made in KUL according to daughters' design. (MYR:AUD 3:1).

Do you know what material is your dress made out of?

It looks like silk chiffon

As mother of the bride FM that's not too bad as I bet similar from some Australian designers is at least the same if not more. I can see the amount of work in the pleating - it makes it really interesting.

Ok ok daughters is satin silk. No idea what this is other than its silk. VISA transaction said said AUD$1800.

Oh definitely - two I looked at in Australia, was a fairly plain Anthea Crawford and that was $800 and a Rachel Gilbert, that I hadn't tried on yet, but I wasn't too happy with the colour and it was $1800.

Yes I remember you mentioning that. For a hand made, one off dress, that sounds like a bargain . Mine is some sort of chiffon thing - not too good with materials. It has two layers of chiffon over two layers of satin, and a built in corset. The sleeves are off the shoulder but held in place with a transparent piece of material that ends in the necklace, so it is quite a cute design.

Very sad to leave the lovely Four Seasons staff - they are rather special. Aidi Abdullah the naturalist said we had to come back a bit later in the season next time so he and Mr FM can go bird watching.

Langkawi is a small airport we had to wait for a domestic flight to go through and then they opened international departures

Silk Air uses a Plaza Premium lounge - very basic - somewhere OK to sit with soft drinks and a few snacks, which we didn't try.

I managed to get a picture of the uniform - really pretty. We both had noodles for lunch.

For dinner last night we went to a curry buffet at Raffles some quite different dishes. They were having a slightly different buffet to celebrate Deepavali

yesterday morning we headed for Little India. We walked from Raffles and initially walked down a pedestrian Mall - Waterloo Street. It had the Sri Krishnan temple, which was really busy with Deepavali celebrants and a Buddhist temple next door.

A very welcoming mosque further into Little India - we didn't go in as it was all rather wet and I didn't want to take my sandals off.

Some general pictures. I would think the ratio of male to female was around 100 to 1. All the beautiful Sari materials are in Arab Street, but we didn't go to that this time.

There was an area whee Deepavali decorations were being sold - lots of sparklers. Earlier in the week it was a festive village.

This time at Raffles we have the Somerset Maugham Suite - same layout as the Noel Coward, but rooms are slightly bigger and all this section looks out onto a lovely grassy courtyard, so it feels more private. Some original letters from Maugham to the hotel are framed in the room. It is the actual suite he stayed in, when he last visited the hotel.

We have been "collecting" high teas. They Hyatt in Canberra, Mirage in Port Douglas, Ritz in London, Peninsula in Hong Kong, Plaza in New York and now Raffles. Ritz probably had the most drama, this one is definitely the best in food. Apart from the standard triple decker and scones, there was also an extensive buffet.

We had a few issues with them not having our booking (in spite of a written confirmation when we checked in - Plaza did the same to us in New York - what is it with Fairmont Hotels!). However unlike the Plaza they managed to get us a good table with not too long a wait and were hugely apologetic and gave us a Raffles History Book. I hadn't been planning to have bubbly with the tea, but the trauma meant I needed to order a half bottle of Krug to soothe my ruffled feathers Mr FM felt I shouldn't reward their incompetence by ordering expensive bottles of bubbly, but I had to put my feelings first....

Yes, I quite like the High Tea at Raffles though I agree that the Ritz is a bit more spectacular. Hyatt Canberra misses out on the food somehow and their service is pretty average the past few times I've been.

I don't mind the food at the Hyatt, but the service ranges from poor to spectacularly bad. .

I have been feeling guilty today, as almost every staff member we spoke to was apologising for yesterday's disaster. I did get a goodbye hug from one of the staff at the Tiffin Room, so it wasn't all bad. I do love Asia

We are at the TPR at the moment, OD'ing on their chocolates, which are divine - bubbly is OK as well..... My poor cholesterol - back on the straight and narrow tomorrow with all organic, home made food.
