Shop Small is back this November!

From memory you can lodge a complaint on the Amex website and they put the credit on to your account.

I've contacted the company first to see if they will help; on my last visit in store they took Amex so I assume its just the way their shopping cart is set up (sneaky really). Otherwise I'll use a MC and chase Amex for the credit.

Not uncommon for stores/ websites to be different cards - they are often processed different ways and may have differing fees, with the fee often being higher for Card Not Present (CNP) transactions.

Frustrating though. They are going to call me and do the transaction over the phone.

One pizza joint in the list, after a google search found it was closed down.

There was a closed shop near me that is also still on the list. I assume it is up to the shop to remove themselves or update details from what I read.

First transaction at Albion Discount Drug store and received email immediately.

First transaction at George St Discount Drug store and no email received. Couldn't find it on the list. Toowong Discount Drug Store is on the list.

Might have to buy a lot of petrol this weekend and next weekend before I go overseas for the remainder of the month.

Haven't received any emails on 2 transactions but had one $10 added back 2 days later

A quick email to Amex when two locations advertised on ShopSmall didn't even accept amex and they agreed to add the credits to my account.

Had 3 places that didn't trigger the $10 credit so I rang Amex and they have manually applied a credit on my Account for $30.

La Porchetta in Sunshine don't accept Amex. I wonder if I should just go their with a MC/VISA and get retrospective credit.

My request to split the bill (for 2 people) into 4 different AMEX transactions at Wasabi restaurant Noosa was met with puzzled reaction. My answer: "with the price you guys charge here we need any help we can get to minimise the damage". The staff found it hilarious and one of the girls even asked me to show her where to sign up lol.

I bought a few SanDisk 32GB micro SD cards from MSY yesterday. They're usually $20 each, but it was a BOGOF special. The ACT store accepts Amex (the only MSY that does), but with a 4% surcharge. They're on the Shop Small map, so I figured it was worth paying the extra 80¢ to get $10 back, on two of my four Amex cards. (I didn't have the nerve to go the whole hog.)

For those that have said they have emailed Amex to advise of published merchants on the shop small map what email did you use?

I just called amex (for plat edge) but all their systems are having an outage at the moment so they just said to call back later when they are back online and they can sort me out on the phone. (this was for a restaurant that refused amex, noticed on the way out they had crossed out one of the amex signs on the door)

I called them and let them know that a cafe on the map didn't take Amex and they're going to credit the $10.
Apparently, if a merchant surcharges Amex, they're not meant to be part of the program.

Good to know

This is certainly what the AMEX website says.

In the last week I've found 3 places that are on the AMEX website list but attempted to charge a surcharge. I walked out without paying. In one case it was to collect a take away thai meal.

+1
i need to chase up a couple of credits too. Would love to know of a direct email instead of using their website which isn't particularly clear.
ive found about 50% of the listed merchants near me don't accept Amex. Very frustrating...

Also got charged with surcharge at one listed merchant today. Not complaining, but seems a little cheeky if they're not meant to do that...

I just had three days in the Hunter valley with my sisters. What great timing. We visited probably 7 wineries and all of us bought at least 1 bottle from each one. I had only recently referred them to the Velocity Platinum so they loved seeing the $10 credit emails roll in. We are planning Barossa next November!
