I don't do this very often, but today I had to send 1 bottle of wine (a bottle of Wendouree for those that frequent this thread: Wendouree allocations and general discussion) from NSW to Tasmania. I was shocked that Australia post charged $20 for this and told me it could take up to a week even though I paid for express postage (the standard parcel post charge was $16, so an extra $4 wasn't much in the scheme of things). This price did not include the styrofoam shipping container (similar to this 1 Bottle Styrofoam Wine Shipping Cooler - COOL-01: Barware: Amazon.com.au. Although admitedly reused from an order I had previously received), or insurance. The item weighed 1.5kgs

Two questions based on this experience:

1) How do wine/alcohol suppliers ship so cheaply (I often pay $0 because I reach a minimum spend or less than $10 for items that weight 10 kgs or more. I recently paid $10 for 50kgs of alcohol that was delivered via Australia Post)?

2) Does anyone know of any cheaper method(s) for sending non commercial quantities of wine?

Another 'Shipping Wine' question - anybody had any experience shipping wine from USA to Australia? Specifically from Houston but just wondering if any knowledge out there re a reliable affordable shipper?

We have a FEDEX account but they won't ship wine - any advice greatly appreciated 👍

No experience but DHL does.

I recently bought a (single) bottle at auction and went to a recommended courier company to pick up (round the cnr) and ship Syd to Adl - $95!!! Yeah nah.

The issue with shipping from anywhere into Aus is the tax, particularly if not doing bulk/business etc.. You'll get stung big time!!

Fortunately I have a colleague who travels with family regularly and they bring it in, in their luggage and free from tax. I load him up with Oz, normally 3 doz for his retune trip.

Anonymous Wines were great when I asked for something to be freighted during COVID - unfortunately, seems like the business has grown too fast and too much demand that it doesn't seem accessible without a trade account now. Could always try enquiring anyway?

Otherwise, per above, just assumed there was volume discounts and also presumably accounted for as part of your margins as overhead/absorbed costs?

Oops didn't realise how old this thread was.

This is what I want to ship from USA to MEL:
